Is my dog's long-standing white mole cancerous after being nicked?

There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hello, sorry to hear about Nala. Most often, those slow growing moles are typically benign, just that some may grow larger than others. However, rarely, some of these moles may become or turn into something more aggressive. Dark colored bumps can be melanomas or hemangiosarcomas amongst other types of tumors. The best way to tell wether this bump is something you should worry about is to have it sampled or removed before it gets too big. Schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to have the lump sampled and potentially removed. Once removed it can be submitted for biopsy to confirm that it is either benign or malignant. But just in general a skin mass could be benign (skin tag, etc) or malignant. Unfortunately without some sort of sampling (cytology or biopsy to collect cells) there is not a way to know for sure based on appearance. Small size, no growth, lack of ulceration, and freely moveable nature are certainly favorable characteristics. Although it's difficult to tell from a picture, at first glance I do think this potentially looks like a benign skin growth known as an adenoma. Since it is new, I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Mollie to see what they think it is. They might recommend taking a sample using a needle to help determine whether or not cancerous cells are present.

This white mole on Toby's side may simply be a benign tumor, but without seeing him in person I can't say for certain. If he is an older dog, there is a chance it could be a malignant tumor. I would have him seen by a vet for it. The vet can determine if this mole is something to be worried about or not, and if it needs to be removed.

Luckily no, this is a wart which is a benign skin growth. Many dogs get warts as they age and they are nothing to be overly concerned about unless they get very large or are in a location to be cut when dogs are getting groomed. Anytime a new mass is noticed, I always recommend having it evaluated to see what it is and if anything needs to be done about it. Unfortunately, we often can't tell anything about a mass by just looking at it. Your vet can perform a simple test called a fine needle aspirate where they use a small needle to collect some cells from the mass, then look at them under the microscope. They may even need to send the cells to the lab for a pathologist to examine them, so we know what the mass is. If it is benign, you might not need to do anything about the mass at all, but if they see cells that worry them, they might recommend removing the mass.
