My dog has a white bump on his paw pad and is limping. What to do?

I agree, the bump in the picture looks like a nipple, which is a normal part of a dog's anatomy. Chewy's limping won't be related to that, and limping is a sign of pain in dogs. It could be he injured himself causing the limping. If he's no longer limping, I wouldn't be concerned, but definitely take him into a vet tomorrow if he is still limping. Best of luck.

I would recommend bringing Chico to a veterinarian. If you can't get there today then I would put an elizabethan collar on him so he cannot lick at his foot. It almost looks like a possible infection. Your veterinarian will be able to evaluate it better when they examine him. This lump looks like it could be a cyst or other skin growth or tumor, and I doubt it is related to the limping. The limping more likely would be related to arthritis, previous trauma or other joint disease. I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian. They can examine the lump and may recommend taking a sample using a small needle to determine what it is. They can also examine Moose's leg and may recommend taking x-rays.

Hi, growth in this area occurs regularly in dogs and can differ in nature and behavior. I would continue the medications as advised by your vet and if once finished the growth is still there, have a fine needle aspirate taken to see if you can understand better what is the nature of the lump. Poor Bruno! Bumps under the skin can be caused by a variety of conditions, including abscesses, inflammation from soft tissue injuries, fractures, or bone tumors (unlikely given his young age), among others. It would be best to take Bruno to his vet for an exam and possible diagnostic testing. The vet will be able to feel the lump, assess his gait, and may need to take x-rays or perform cytology under the microscope with fluid/tissue from the lump. That said, if Bruno is walking completely normally, not licking the affected area, and is otherwise eating, drinking, and acting like himself, this type of lesion does not warrant a trip to an emergency vet and can wait a day or two, if needed. There is a couple of types of skin growths in dogs that are basically tumors filed with blood. One is a hemangioma, and that type is benign (meaning it doesn't spread to the rest of the body); the other is a hemangiosarcoma, and these are malignant. There is no way to tell the difference between the two; the mass must be removed surgically and then tested with a biopsy. The other possibility is that your dog sustained some type of trauma to the foot that is causing the lesion and the bleeding. I would get this checked out right away, especially because of the possibility that it could be cancerous, so that you can get it removed and deal with it once and for all.

These could even be the result of an infection. These lesions are likely the reason why she is limping though other things like a soft tissue injury are also possible. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
