Why does my dog whistle after exercise and get snappy with strangers?

This is not normal, especially for a young, athletic dog. I would recommend he be evaluated by a veterinarian and potentially have chest radiographs performed. Wheezing and a cough can be caused by upper/lower airway diseases or even heart disease so it is important to rule those problems out.

A wheezing sound in the throat, hoarseness, and/or a raspy quality to her panting or breathing are all concerning for something interfering with normal air flow in the back of her throat. Your vet can do a complete oral exam under sedation if needed to get a better look at her throat, and may also recommend x-rays or other testing to help check for abnormalities.

It is possible he has a sensitive trachea or a condition called tracheal collapse, which is when the trachea briefly narrows in diameter when the pet gets excited or plays. If he is otherwise doing well, then you can monitor him for now for any progressive symptoms. If he starts coughing throughout the day, then a vet visit is needed for further evaluation and x-rays to confirm this suspected diagnosis and to then start treatment. Hello, the wheezing could indeed indicate allergies, rhinitis, upper respiratory tract infection or perhaps something associated with her lungs or trachea. The most likely causes for what you have described in this breed would be: 1. collapsing trachea 2. reverse sneezing 3. heart disease/failure 4. kennel cough 5. asthma 6. heartworm disease Of course I cannot know what is going on without examining him myself.
