My dog's whiskers are short and sparse. Should I be concerned?

Cats normally shed whiskers just like they shed their other fur. So, it is normal to occasionally find whiskers, but it is a little weird to find 3 whiskers in 3 days. If there are areas in her whiskers that are appearing bare or thin or any other areas of hair loss, then I would recommend having your veterinarian examine her. If everything looks fine around her whiskers, then it might just be a fluke that you have found 3 whiskers so close together and you may not see any more for a while. Good luck! If everything else looks normal in the area, its probably fine to monitor. Sometimes the hair cycle can sync up. As long as the whiskers are regrowing, this is normal. If you see lesions on the skin, this could indicate pathology and DMX should see his veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi there! This is normal and many German Shepherd's have this very same presentation. It should not cause any problems and has probably been there for the lifetime of your pet. No worries! Hope this helps.

Aw! For the first few days he may seem off balance or not want to go through doors. But he will get use to having shorter whiskers and they will grow back! If he was recently groomed and that's how they got cut, I would specify to the groomer the next time you tske him that you want to leave his whiskers. Cats get their whiskers cut all the time by groomers and people! I hope this helps!

If this doesn't get any better in a day or two with mild soap and water, you may want to visit Kino's veterinarian for a prescription antibiotic. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes I would be concerned. She may have microscopic mites (demodex) that need to be addressed. A vet will need to see her and scrape her skin to look at the mites under the microscope. If found, they can start Buzy on treatments and eventually the hair should grow back. If it isn’t mites the vet may need to do more tests to determine why she isn’t growing hair. Once a diagnosis is made the correct treatment should fix her problem. Good luck and kisses to Buzy!
