Why is my dog whimpering but showing no obvious signs of pain?

This could be due to a behavioral change (anxiety, fear, etc.) or it could be caused by an underlying health problem. Pain and discomfort due to a variety of causes can make dogs vocalize and seek human attention. I recommend taking him to your vet for a health evaluation to make sure that there is not a physical cause of this behavior change. Your vet can talk with you about ways to change the behavior if it turns out there is no underlying medical issue.

Sensitivity of one of the back legs can be caused by many things including a soft tissue strain or sprain, arthritis of the hip or radiating back pain, a bite wound from another dog or even an insect bite. If he is improving a little with time I would give him the weekend to rest but if not resolving by Monday have his veterinarian evaluate him. Keep an eye on the area for swelling, redness, wetness (from licking or a wound). These signs or worsening discomfort may be indications to have him seen sooner. I hope Louie is feeling better ASAP!

The symptoms you are describing can be caused by many things and would be best to have a veterinarian perform Diagnostics to rule out different causes. She could have pain somewhere in or on her body or she could have anxiety. It is hard to say for sure without seeing her or examining her actions. I would recommend video taping her doing this and showing it to your veterinarian. The vet can also do a complete physical exam to make sure she is not hurting somewhere on her body. Typically pets will gnaw or limp on a certain leg if they are experiencing pain along the skin or musculoskeleton. It's possible something may have startled your puppy, however if he is whimpering or appearing very agitated it could indicate an issue such as pain or illness causing him to feel unwell. If the problem persists or you see other signs of illness, it is best to seek veterinary care ASAP as very young puppies can become very ill quickly.

Just because you were unable to elicit a pain response from Chapman does not necessarily mean he isn't uncomfortable or painful somewhere in the body. I am glad to hear that he seems generally happy and healthy right now and is doing his normal thing. If this continues, you can certainly monitor at home for any other negative symptoms. If the crying or whining continues with consistency for more than a day I would definitely get him checked to make sure nothing serious is going on. Hope this makes sense.

I am sorry Buddy was not feeling well/being vocal. Unfortunately based on the information you provided it is hard to give great information. Dogs can whine due to anxiety, nervous, pain, trauma, and even behavior. If Buddy is acting normal now I would continue to just keep a close eye on him and if he repeats this behavior consider taking him to a vet for a good exam. hope that helps
