My dog is wheezing, tired, and not eating. What could be wrong?

It sounds Charlie may be experiencing at the vet least an upper or lower respiratory infection. She needs to be examined by your veterinarian, and should probably have a diagnostic x-ray performed to rule out processes like pneumonia. As far as the pain in the lower legs and belly, this may or may not be related to the other problems. Once again, a thorough physical exam will hopefully reveal the cause of Charlie's problems. If she is not drinking any water, dehydration can occur quite quickly in a 14 lb dog. I would not delay long in making a trip to the doctor. If for some reason you have to delay things, make sure you have syringe feeding liquids until you can get her there. Hope this makes sense.

I suspect the breathing is a sign of pain probably from her abdomen. She could have an intestinal virus (like the flu) that could be causing her not to feel well. They are sometimes accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea. She could also be painful somewhere else, have an infection internally, or she could have gotten into something she shouldn’t have. You can take her temperature rectally- anything over 102.5 is concerning. But even if she doesn’t have a fever and is still acting painful, I would take her to see a vet. They will start with an exam to see if they locate the problem. They may need to run blood work and take X-rays of her abdomen to look for a problem (which would also show if she was constipated). Hello. It often takes a bit of time for some infections to clear, but if you are concerned, please have her rechecked as soon as possible. This may be an indication that a new, or another antibiotic needs to be added to her treatment. Another option is to have her re-evaluated at a referral clinic, one that has multiple specialists. Sometimes, it takes a fresh pair of eyes to diagnose a difficult problem. Do not wait to see what happens since she is obviously worse.
