Pet's info: Dog | Coton de Tulear | Male | neutered | 4 years and 8 months old | 8 lbs
My dog (8lb, 4.5 y/o, M, neutered Coton de Tulear) is breathing rapidly with short inhales. His gums are pink and moist and his heartbeat is about 80 bpm. He has had “spells” like this before that only last a minute or so, but today he’s had probably 3-5 spells that last a few minutes. He doesn’t seem to be acting differently than usual. I thought it was reverse sneezing, but it seems to be short inhales of breath.

Given that this seems to be a continuing problem with Bentley, I would be wondering if he is suffering from allergies. He may benefit from stronger medications if he does have allergies, such as steroids or Apoquel. It's worth a discussion with your vet to see if this is something that may be suitable for him. In the meantime, since he's congested, you can try using a humidifier or bringing him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections.
