My Labrador has a weeping paw lump. Is it urgent with vets closed?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed

8 year old labrador seems to have developed an absess type lump on the top of her left hind paw. Noticed on Friday, doesn't seem to be causing pain except when pressed. Weeping a bit at the time. Today is a Sunday and tomorrow a bank holiday in Northern Ireland, so no vets open. Is this urgent? Many thanks, Jane

This is likely an infected interdigital cyst. You can soak the paw in a solution of warm water and epsoms salt for five minutes twice a day. That will help draw out the infection. Use a cone if needed to prevent licking. Often these need oral antibiotics to heal but you are fine waiting a few days to see your veterinarian.
