My Labrador has a weeping paw lump. Is it urgent with vets closed?

Hi there and thank you for your question! Until you can take Honey into see her veterinarian, I'd recommend keeping it clean and dry. Mild soap and water wash if needed. You can keep an ecollar on Honey if she is licking or chewing at her paw. The ecollar will help prevent her from bothering it further. I hope this helps and good luck at the vet's tomorrow!

It could be a cyst. It could also be a result or a foreign body such as a splinter or grass awn. Unless he he very painful or lethargic. It probably isn't an emergency. Of course, the sooner treatment is started, the sooner he will heal up. Keep the site clean and dry. Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking until he sees the vet.

This is an interdigital infected cyst. You can soak it in warm water with epsoms salt to help get the area to drain. Generally I treat these with antibiotics and prevent licking by using a restraint collar. With treatment this should heal in a week or two. Hello, thank you for your question about Baxter. Based on your description and the photo provided I believe that Baxter can wait until Monday to be seen by a veterinarian. In the meantime I would try to prevent him from licking at the area and try to keep it as clean as possible. If you have one you can use an e-collar to prevent him from getting at the area. Alternatively you could cover his foot with a sock (if you use this method try to keep the sock clean and dry, it may need to be changed). Additionally when Baxter goes outside I would recommend covering his foot (especially if the ground is wet) to prevent dirt and debris from getting to the area. You can use a plastic shopping bag or a bootie for this purpose. I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian on Monday so that they can examine the area and determine if it is infected/irritated and prescribe Baxter any medications that they feel are warranted. This sounds like an infected interdigital cyst. These are common in dog’s paws. They usually need oral antibiotics to heal these infections, so I would take her in to your veterinarian for an exam and treatment. In the meantime you can soak the paw in an antibacterial solution, and use a cone to prevent her from licking the paw. It sounds like Ruger could have traumatized his paw or may have an infection or a cyst there. It's not an emergency but I'd make an appointment to see your vet as sometimes they need systemic medications to get it to heal, since it's difficult to put topical medication on the paw.

There appears to be some staining which may indicate chronic licking. The "lump" could be a lick granuloma caused by the chronic licking. That may be due to itching, discomfort, stress or boredom. You would need to have Luna physically examined by your veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis. A fine needle aspirate can be done in the clinic to collect samples for pathology if it is a lump and not a granuloma. This may provide a diagnosis.
