Why is my dog suddenly weak, wobbly, shaking, and scooting her butt?

Given her breed, I am concerned that she is experiencing a problem with the disks in her back. If a disk bulges or swells, it will put pressure on the spinal cord resulting in weakness and wobbling. I would recommend that she sees a veterinarian tonight if possible. If left untreated, the dog can experience paralysis in rare cases. In the meantime, keep very quiet. It is difficult to know exactly what you mean but you may mean head bobbing which may be due to something wrong with her neurologic system. It may be something else of course. The scooting may be due to anal sac issues. I would recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check what may be wrong so that therapy is recommended accordingly. It would be a good idea to take a video of this to be able to show to your veterinarian. Poor girl. The fact that she is wobbly and running into things, means that this is likely neurological. I would definitely have her seen by your vet right away for a thorough examination and brief neuro exam to see if we can find the underlying cause for this. One common cause for these types of sudden neurological symptoms in older dogs is vestibular disease, which can be caused by an inner ear infection, a brain tumor, or idiopathic (no underlying cause found). Idiopathic vestibular disease is the most common one we see and typically can improve on its own within a few weeks time with supportive care through your vet. This sounds like a medical emergency and you should have Puddin seen right away. The potential cause for her signs are a slipped disc in her back causing pinching of her nerves going to her back legs (Intervertebral disc disease), trauma, spinal infection, a spinal tumor or a toxin. The veterinarian will want to perform a through exam and localize the pain. They will also check Puddin's neurologic function which will help to determine if her signs are due to a spinal problem. If her signs worsen and she can no longer walk on her back legs, she may need an MRI or surgery. Please have her seen, good luck.

Shasta is experiencing two very different issues that may not have anything to do with one another unfortunately. In terms of hind end lameness, the most common causes of this are traumatic injuries, inflammatory conditions (arthritis / tendinitis), infectious diseases, tick borne diseases, nutritional deficiencies, clotting disorders, and certain cancers. As for diarrhea, the common causes of this include dietary indiscretion, inflammatory conditions of the GI tract, pancreatitis, parasites, infectious diseases, immune-mediated conditions, and certain types of cancers. To address either of these issues if they have been occurring for a significant period of time, both blood work and imaging modalities would be needed. This doesn't sound like an emergency or anything, but if either of these problems has been persistent I would consider making an appointment to have Shasta seen sometime soon for a work-up. Based on what you are describing I would be very concerned that Scooter is having seizure-like episodes. I would recommend taking a video of the incident if possible and showing it to your veterinarian. Oh my. It is possible she has an intestinal parasites that is causing this. The puking is due to nausea, but I am not sure why she is also foaming, as this isn't commonly seen in pets, unless they have a severe viral infection. I would get her stool tested through your vet to start, and then get her nausea treated with a prescription through your vet as well. Tapeworms are a common cause for itching around the rear end, and are typically easily seen in the stool. They look like tiny white rice or fried rice when they are dried up. Keep an eye out for these, since these are often not seen on fecal exam due to the large size of the worm. Another possible cause for her licking and scooting her rear end is that her anal glands are full. Every dog has anal glands that are 2 sacs located at 5 and 7 o'clock position just inside the rectum. These can get full in some pets because they are not expressed when they defecate, or after the pet has a bout of loose stool.
