My dog is weak, losing weight, drinking a lot, and has cloudy eyes. What's wrong?

That is a significant weight loss in a short period of time and that coupled with the increase in drinking can be a sign of diabetes. Loss of appetite and weight loss can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. He may be so weak that that is why it seems like he is urinating and defecating in his bed and laying on it. I recommend that you have Rooney evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Possibilities are many including pancreatitis, a toxicity, an infection, among many others. I highly recommend that you have Josephine evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid that this could be something serious. I would have Molly seen by a vet as soon as possible. It sounds like she has a few things going on at the moment that need to be diagnosed and treated medically . The problems using her back legs could be due to arthritis, or problems with her hips, spine, and/or joints. Drinking a lot more and peeing a lot more can be due to diabetes or kidney disease. That would also cause weight loss. The bad breath could be caused by diabetes and dental disease. Finally, peeing her in sleep could be caused by incontinence. She needs a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis to diagnose what is causing all of her symptoms. Once a cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Chopper looks very sick. I would worry about kidney or liver failure or even cancer. Sadly cancer, specifically lymphoma, is non-discriminatory regarding age. Lymphoma, liver and kidney disease all cause weight loss, increased thirst and urination, weakness and a poor appetite. Chopper needs to see a Veterinarian. I wish you all the best!

Hello, I believe you just posted recently about your dog. I replied to that post however this post suggests a much more serious and fast weight loss. If you are seeing rapid weight loss over a short period of time you need to have your dog seen by a veterinarian. They will likely want to do some bloodwork. Also, if her eyes were looking funny that can be a problem with the eyes, or with the brain, depending on what you were seeing. I recommend bringing her to a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope she feels better soon!

She is getting to be consider a senior pet. Due to that they can develop diabetes or kidney disease or cancer or some other metabolic disease causing the weight loss. A vet is the best option to run blood work to check for these disease as some are more manageable than others. If she goes untreated, you may notice the weight loss continue and even vomiting or diarrhea ensue due to advanced disease. On average it is more economic to treat and manage a disease when they are healthy, so the sooner the better you can find a way to take Roxy in the better. Different clinics might accept different forms of payment, so it may be worth checking around
