My dog is weak, shaking, and not moving. What should I do now?

I’m sorry to hear about Teddy. There are a couple things that can cause severe vomiting like this - none of them good. Parvo virus or an intestinal blockage are first on my list- both need aggressive treatment. Other, less likely possibilities include toxin, anaphylactoid reaction, or severe gastritis. Unfortunately, he needs to see the vet immediately. This is too excessive to just be “I ate something weird and vomited a little”. The veterinarian will ask lots more questions, do a good physical exam and may recommend x-rays, and/or a parvo test to help narrow down the cause of the vomiting. They can also treat the nausea and administer fluids for dehydration. Best of luck to you and Teddy.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Teddy! Teddy is shaking after he vomits and has diarrhea (?) is because he either doesn't feel good or is scared. People and babies do the same thing after they vomit. The best thing is to find out why the vomiting is happening if it is often. If it isn't often and after the vomit episode Teddy is fine then the shaking is a normal part of vomiting. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections. ate something gross outside that is upsetting his stomach, foreign body ingestion (something is stuck and needs surgery), toxin ingestion or food allergy or sensitivity. If this the vomiting is abnormal and/or a new thing and it continues I recommend taking Teddy to the Vet for an exam. I hope this helps and I wish you and Teddy the best!

Poor King Meza! He does sound like he isn't feeling well at the moment, but his symptoms are a little general to pinpoint a specific illness. I'm wondering if you mean that his head is shaking when you say he can't keep it still. That would be involuntary head tremors, and could be caused by an injury, toxins, inflammation, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), weakness, or pain. He might be lethargic as well. You have a couple of options in this case. You can take him into a vet right away for an exam to be safe, and I typically recommend doing that since I can't see the animal in person to say if they will be ok or not. In my opinion, it's always best to be safe and have an animal seen by a vet when there are concerns about their health. The other option is to monitor him for now. If his symptoms continue for the next couple of hours, they worsen, or he develops additional signs such as vomiting, anorexia, seizures, or any other concerning signs, I would take him into a vet right away.

That sounds scary! Teddy may have had a seizure. Syncope or a low blood sugar episode are also possible. Teddy needs to be examined by his veterinarian today if possible. Pets can have seizures for many reasons including liver disease, electrolyte imbalance, infections, inner ear problems, cancer or epilepsy. He will need a physical exam and bloodwork to begin to narrow down and appropriately address the cause. Seizures are serious and are best addressed early. Best of luck.

Poor Tigs! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of medical problem - shaking, acting lethargic, and not eating are generally signs of pain or discomfort, but beyond that he would need an exam and some diagnostic testing to determine what's wrong. I would recommend taking him to the vet today to be seen. He/she can do blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem.

I hate to hear that Pantufla is not feeling well! Just like humans, there are many many causes of vomiting and some of the causes can be very serious. Any pet vomiting beyond 24 hours should be examined by the veterinarian. Any pet who is vomiting more than twice in a day or not holding down water also needs to be examined by the veterinarian. I am concerned that the shaking you are seeing indicates abdominal pain which is very worrisome for an intestinal blockage or pancreatitis. I recommend to have Pantufla examined today. It sounds as Teddy is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.
