My dog is weak, bloated, not eating. What if medication isn't working?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

I took my doctor that a week ago he was bought and he's just really weak they did x-ray and they found out that he can stomach was bloated and that he has air in his stomach so they gave me medication it's been a week and he hasn't gotten any better he's not eating and is weak I don't know what to do and I'm worried

Please call your vet and give him/her an update and schedule a recheck. Your vet might need to run some blood-work and repeat x-rays to try to diagnose his problem. If it has been a week with no improvement than the medication is not working and your vet needs to determine the cause. He may need some fluids to treat dehydration since he has not been eating and is so weak. Please call your vet right away and discuss.

Poor Blu! He's a cute dog but looks like he doesn't feel well. I am very concerned that he hasn't eaten all week. That is definitely abnormal and at this point could be experiencing severe dehydration and even low blood sugar from lack of nutrition. This change in behavior could be do to a long list of problems, such as intestinal parasites, viral infections, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, or even a congenital problem, since Blu is so young. I would recommend you take Blu in to your vet as soon as possible to be evaluated and potentially have some tests done. At minimum he likely needs some supportive care, like fluid therapy and anti-nausea medication to get him eating again. I hope Blu is on the mend soon!

If your dog does not start showing improvement after 48 hours of being on the medication and/or if his symptoms persist, then you should take him back to your veterinarian for a recheck. Tommy needs to go into a vet immediately. It's very serious he won't eat, he's lost lots of weight, and is weak from lack of nutrition. At his age, it could be something severe causing him to not eat, such as kidney failure, liver failure, cardiac disease, or cancer among others. He needs veterinary attention now, he will slowly be starving. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. This is very very concerning and he needs to be taken back to a veterinarian. There is a possibility that he has an intestinal obstruction, or other serious intestinal problem, The next step would be xrays to see whether there is excessive gas and something blocking the intestine or stomach exit (pylorus). Please take him back to your veterinarian for a recheck.

Why is my dog spitting up bile and not eating after medicine?

Poor Buddy! It is difficult to know the cause without examining him and knowing the medications he is taking. If he is taking an antibiotic then he could have an upset stomach from the antibiotic. You should call your vet and give him/her an update as your vet may need to change medications. You could also add a probioitc to his diet and see if that helps. It would also be a good idea to have a stool sample tested for parasites to make sure he doesn't have an intestinal parasite causing the problem. Hope he feels better soon!

My dog ate something, is vomiting, lethargic, and won't take pills?

Poor Dough Boy! At this point, he should have an abdominal x-ray to make sure there isn't an obstruction, especially if the shot she gave him was an anti-vomiting injection and he is still vomiting. If the x-ray is negative than he should also have blood-work done to look for abnormalities as it is concerning that he is vomiting, lethargic, and losing weight. Besides, pushing the pill all the way back in his throat and holding his mouth closed until he swallows, there isn't much more you can do to administer an oral medication unless he would eat it in a treat. However, it sounds like he would just vomit the medicine back up. Please have the vet take a look at him again for a work-up. Hope he feels better soon!

I am so sorry to hear about Shiva. It sounds like she needs to get to the vet right away with tehse symptoms. In an unspayed dog who is acting ill like this we always worry about an infection of the uterus called a pyometra https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951481 . In any dog with a bloated belly and lethargy we also worry about things like a tumor that is bleeding, fluid in the belly due to heart or liver disease. All of these things require immediate veterinary care, so I would get Shiva to the vet today, the emergency vet if your vet is closed.
