My dog has a weak back end after dental surgery. Should I worry?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | 8 years and 3 months old

My dog had dental surgery today (approx 11am). He's home now and seems ok, just more tired than usual, which I expect. He has eaten, drank and peed. However, I've noticed that his back end seems weak. Seems fine when he walks, but when he stands his back end starts to droop down. Surgery was over around 1pm. Is a weak back end something to worry about at this point or is this normal after surgery? Thanks!

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Cruz. It could be he is just very tired from the surgery and anesthesia. I'd keep an eye on him for now, and if he isn't back to normal by the morning, give his vet a call. Best of luck.
