My dog is lethargic and not eating after dental cleaning. Vet visit?

Poor girl. It is not normal for a pet to have continuous vomiting and lack of appetite post dental extractions. If she was sent home with an NSAID to take that helps with pain and inflammation, then that could be the underlying cause of her symptoms. This would be considered an adverse reaction to the medication. If she seems like she can't control her vomiting and is very unstable, then yes an ER visit may be best for her. At the very least she needs to be seen within the next 12 hrs if possible, to get her treatment to stop the vomiting and help settle her stomach. Hello, and thank you for your question. It is concerning that his lethargy has been persisting for so long. It is difficult to say what this could be, but some dogs are hardy enough that the only symptom they may show of being ill is lethargy. I would certainly recommend having him checked out by a vet to be sure we are not missing a medical issue. They can perform a full physical exam to check for any areas of pain or infection, and may recommend additional blood tests or x-rays depending on what is found on the physical exam. For example, some problems I commonly see after grooming visits are skin or ear infections. If this is detected by the vet, they can recommend medications to help clear the issue. If he physically checks out fine, it is possible this may be a purely behavioural issue, in which case the vet can also provide advice on how to help as well. I am glad to hear she seems to be feeling well. Occasionally, the Gi tract will have a mild temporary change during/after anesthesia which can result in the changes in the stool that you saw. I would recommend that you feed her a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) for the next couple of days. She may be experiencing abdominal pain from whatever is causing the vomiting. Antibiotics can cause some gastrointestinal upset resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhea, but I do not typically see patients as sick as she seems to be. I hope you are able to get her feeling better. I would bring Jazzy back into her main vet. Clearly something isn't right and that needs to be fixed. It's not normal she has been having trouble eating, is drooling, and now has lost weight. It's certainly something that has to be investigated, and I can tell you aren't happy with the vet who did the dental cleaning. You should take her to someone you trust. Your vet can speak with the other vet about what was found during the cleaning to maybe get some insight as to why Jazzy is having these problems. I'd make an appointment with your regular vet as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

If she has been like this for more than 24 hours, then it would be best to take her to the vet. She may be reacting negatively to her medication and need treatment to get better. Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Ginger evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam.
