My dog has a watery eye. Can prednisone treat or cure the issue?

I do not recommend giving any medications unless directed by your vet. He could have a corneal ulcer, infection, scratch, or foreign body in his eye. Your vet can do some testing to diagnose and then prescribe the best medication to treat. He may need an antibiotic to treat.

There are over the counter eye drops that work well in eye allergy cases or a steroid drop from your vet. If they are still watering, I would ask the vet for a steroid eye drop and try this for a month to see if it helps. I hope this helps! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. It is not safe to use human medications without knowing the exact medical condition as some treatments can actually worsen the patient's condition when used inadequately. I highly recommend that you have Hershey evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!

Poor Beaudreax! He could have a problem with his other eye causing it to squint, like an ulcer as well or an infection. No, oral prednisone will not help his eye ulcer, nor will Ciprofloaxin drops. Treating an ulcer requires a specific topical eye specific medication which can only be prescribed by the vet. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends to afford the vet, and I can give you some resources that may help. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. The main reason is that the topical (to put in the eye) prednisolone does not have good systemic penetration so it has more of the anti-inflammatory effects of it without the immunosuppressive part of it. Dry eye can result in the discharge in the picture you posted and can require more than just Artificial Tears to treat. (That would be more common than an allergy problem especially since only one eye is affected.)
