My puppy has diarrhea and won't eat after Nexgard. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 20 days old

My puppy got a Nexgard chewing pill a few days ago. Since then she had mucousy diarrhea and doesn't want to eat at all. What should I do with her?

That could happen after administration of Nexgard, even though is quite unusual and it is more likely to be dietary related.

I would suggest to withhold food for the next 4 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.

I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
