My puppy has diarrhea and won't eat after Nexgard. What should I do?

There isn’t a specific medication to counteract the effects, just supportive care. I would contact your vet so they can report the reaction to the company. Sadly, as with any medication, there is potential for negative side effects with Bexgard. It is generally very well tolerated and it is very effective. Vomiting and diarrhea are reported side effects in the drug insert provided by the company. I have never heard of frequent ruination. It sounds like Blitz should have a recheck to make sure he is stable and to provide supportive medications for his symptoms. I wish you both the best!

Poor pup! Nausea is less common with Nexgard than with some of the other oral flea meds available (such as Comfortis or Trifexis), but can still happen in some dogs. Normally, giving the pill with a meal helps to prevent this, but it doesn't sound like it's helped much for your dog. It normally doesn't matter what type of food you give it with, because the purpose of giving with a meal is to slow absorption of the medication so that it's more gradual - it's the presence of food in the stomach that helps, rather than any specific ingredients. So if this hasn't helped with your pup, you may want to try a different medication next month - the vomiting isn't dangerous and is not a sign of toxicity problems or any other serious issues, but I know it's no fun for either of you to have him vomit every month! He might do better with Bravecto, or a topical flea/tick med such as K9 Advantix.

Bravecto may cause diarrhea in some dogs. If Gunner is behaving normally otherwise, withhold food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte as log as he is not vomiting. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Feed this way until the stool is normal before transitioning solely to the regular diet. A bland diet is plain white rice mixed with one of the following: cottage cheese, ground turkey, ground beef (cooked/drained) or boiled boneless/skinless chicken breast. If the diarrhea does not stop or if Gunner develops other symptoms (lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, etc.), then have him seen by your veterinarian.

You did not mess up, its ok! They are both for fleas but work in different ways. Nexgard will kill the adult fleas (as well as ticks). However adult fleas are only a small part of the problem when it comes to fleas, because the eggs that may have been laid by the adult fleas will sprinkle off your dog, hatch in your carpet (eww I know) and the baby larvae will find their way back onto your dog (or other pets, or even you in very severe infestations). Sentinel renders the eggs laid by fleas unable to hatch. This article below may help explain this. Its possible that the medications may have contributed to her diarrhea today. If she is still eating, is playful and acting normally, see how she is in the morning, and let your vet know she had some diarrhea. Your vet may advise against giving them at the same time if he or she suspects that may have contributed. But the sort answer here it, you did not mess up. Hi, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Poor Myla, it sounds like she is having a bad time. The hairloss can occur from both ringworm and Demodex. Lethargy and loss of appetite could be a possible side effect of nexgard or can also be side effects of any antibiotic and antifungal medications she may be on. As long as she is relatively alert and active, then I would contact her regular vet in the morning to discuss your concerns. If she is severely lethargic, hasn't eaten at all in more than 12 hours or showing other signs of illness then I recommend taking her to an emergency vet tonight to have her checked out. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amount until symptoms resolve. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms to monitor for and that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, vomiting, persistent diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.
