If your pet has vomited this much in the past 45 minutes I would be very suspicious of a foreign body or a very intense dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have). I would recommend you start supportive care (like Famotiidne 05-1.0mg/kg every 12 hrs and a bland diet like Purina EN Gastrointestinal canned food OR boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. However there is a big possibility that this could have been a toxicity and if any more symptoms start to arise (such as ataxia (staggering) or shaking, crying out) then I highly recommend you seek a personal veterinarian for a physical examination and further diagnostics. - Dr. H

Poor Gus, Bugzy, and Charlie! You can see some vomiting as a side effect of a deworming treatment. Give them a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if that helps them. Feed it for a couple of days, and then slowly add back in their normal diet. If the vomiting continues on the bland diet, they stop eating, and/or become very lethargic, I would take them into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Hello. It sounds like Charlie was given Capstar & Bravecto. However, if they were administered on the 28th, the Capstar was out of his system after 24 hours. Vomiting & loss of appetite are the 2 most common signs of the Bravecto, but it is still an extremely safe medication. So I am not sure we can blame it on the flea medications after this much time. If the vomiting has just started, withhold all food for at least 8-12 hours, & only allow small amounts of water, preferably as ice cubes. Restart food using 25% cooked chicken & 75% white rice when the vomiting has stopped. Give very small meals frequently rather than 1 or 2 big meals. If Charley seems comfortable, transition back to his regular diet after about 1 day or so. I'm sorry to hear that Boo hasn't been feeling well! It is possible that the permethrin spray or collars may be related to his vomiting, but other possible causes include a foreign body intestinal obstruction, virus, parasites (particularly tapeworms since they can be transmitted by ingesting infected fleas), among others. At this point, I recommend leaving his flea collar off and bathing Boo in original blue Dawn dish soap to remove any residue remaining from the permethrin sponge bath. Withhold food for the next 12 hours, then gradually offer very small frequent meals of a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days. After a few days, gradually mix the bland diet with his normal food over another 5-7 days. If Boo continues to vomit, develops diarrhea, becomes lethargic or stops eating, he will need to go to his vet for further evaluation. Once he vomiting resolves, be sure that Boo is regularly receiving a high quality flea preventative, such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or K9 Advantix II. I hope that he feels better soon!

If a pet is vomiting, it is best to withhold all food and medicine for at least 12 hours. Afterwards, a bland diet can be offered in small, frequent amounts. It is never recommended to give human medications to your pet without the advice of your veterinarian. Some medications can be toxic or may complicate any underlying condition. If she can keep the water down, continue with small frequent amounts. No more than a couple tablespoons (20-30 mls) at a time. Have her examined by your veterinarian in the morning. The foods she ate can certainly cause vomiting, but it is best to have serious illness or foreign body ruled out by the vet.
