My dog walked through an oil or antifreeze puddle. Is she okay?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 2 months old

Chloe walked through a puddle from a car. It smells like oil it I can't tell if it's oil or antifreeze. I gave her a bath after I saw she stopped in it and focused on her paws and legs mostly. Is she going to be alright? Is there anything I should look for?

Hello. If Chloe never had a chance to lick any of the substance off her feet, then she will be perfectly fine. Neither oil nor antifreeze can be absorbed through the ski, so no worries here. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
