Why is my dog vomiting white foamy liquid and not drinking water?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 4 years and 1 month old | 45 lbs

Hi, my dog keeps vomiting but now its turned from yellow to white clear foamy. Im trying to fast her before giving her food and just sticking to water for now. But she barely drinks any, I gave her some pedialyte to keep her hydrated she will take that and not throw it up same with a little pepto bismol. Im seeing if she sticks with water without throwing it up. And hopefully giving her food afterwards. I cant tell if she has diarrhea cause she hasnt really ate anything. Please help! Thanks!

Hello, thank you for your question about Bubba.

Vomiting is a nonspecific sign than can be indicative of problems within the GI tract or systemic disease. Problems within the GI tract can include obstruction, eating foreign material, inflammation, parasites, etc. Systemic diseases that make pets nauseous include liver/kidney disease or pancreatitis.

If Bubba continues to vomit and unable to keep even water down I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. Severe vomiting can lead to dehydration and abnormalities in some electrolytes. Your veterinarian can examine Bubba and then discuss additional diagnostics such as bloodwork and abdominal x-rays to look for a cause for her symptoms.

This could be caused by a large number of things but in older dogs, inflammation of the intestines, a dietary indiscretion, liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, or even some form of infection could cause vomiting in a dog. My dog is vomiting white foam and pressing his head. What should I do?

If Bogummy is vomiting that many times a day I would be concerned that he may have gastritis, pancreatitis, or some sort of liver issue (because of the head pressing ). I would recommend taking him back to his veterinarian and pursuing other treatments such as antacids or bloodwork.

If she seems to be doing better now and the vomiting has resolved, it should be fine to continue with the current plan of giving her small amounts of i/d for the next 2-3 days before gradually switching back to her regular diet. If she's still vomiting despite the Pepcid and bland diet, then I would say she definitely needs a vet visit at this point to determine what is causing her symptoms. She may have an intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, or some type of systemic illness like liver or kidney disease.
