My dog vomits white foam, won't eat. Is it gastritis or a blockage?

I recommend doing a GI contrast series of X-rays first. That will show if there is a blockage from her eating something that is stuck in the intestines. The ultrasound for this is not as helpful in my opinion and shouldn’t be necessary unless there is no blockage and they want to check her abdomen and other organs. If she seems to be doing better now and the vomiting has resolved, it should be fine to continue with the current plan of giving her small amounts of i/d for the next 2-3 days before gradually switching back to her regular diet. If she's still vomiting despite the Pepcid and bland diet, then I would say she definitely needs a vet visit at this point to determine what is causing her symptoms. She may have an intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, or some type of systemic illness like liver or kidney disease. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.

Hello, thank you for your question about Bubba. Vomiting is a nonspecific sign than can be indicative of problems within the GI tract or systemic disease. Problems within the GI tract can include obstruction, eating foreign material, inflammation, parasites, etc. Systemic diseases that make pets nauseous include liver/kidney disease or pancreatitis. If Bubba continues to vomit and unable to keep even water down I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. Severe vomiting can lead to dehydration and abnormalities in some electrolytes. Your veterinarian can examine Bubba and then discuss additional diagnostics such as bloodwork and abdominal x-rays to look for a cause for her symptoms. Hope this helps, good luck!

It sounds as Kira is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Your poor pup! She may be quite ill. Vomiting in dogs has many causes, some serious and others not so serious. This could be caused by [pancreatitis](https://www.petcoach.co/article/pancreatitis-inflammation-in-dogs), a [foreign body](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/foreign-bodies-in-the-small-intestine-in-cats-and/), or a severe GI illness. Given the number of vomiting episodes in a relatively short period of time coupled with the fact she is bringing up white foam, ideally, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. A complete exam and diagnostics (blood work, x-rays, etc.) may diagnose the underlying cause. Afterwards, the appropriate treatment can be administered. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti-emetics, etc.) can be administered until a diagnosis is reached.

Acute pancreatitis and gastrointestinal inflammation/infections are still possible as well as foreign body ingestion with material not visible on X rays (ultrasound in these cases might be more sensitive). Given the lack of improvement, I would suggest to have her checked again and have a test for pancreatitis (it is a blood test called cPLI) performed. If not eating and probably in a sort of abdominal discomfort, nutritional support and pain relief meds are needed.

It sounds possible that Magi may have acid reflux disease. I would inquire with your vet about trying a short course of antacids on her. If that has already been tried, then I would suggest doing some bloodwork to check for any organ issues. And if that again is normal, then a food trial should be done to treat for suspected inflammatory bowel disease. Some good food options here are going to be easily digestible foods such as Royal Canin hypoallergenic HP, Hill's Selected protein PR, or Hill's Z/D Ultra.
