Dog vomiting, losing weight, not eating, and weak. What's wrong?

It looks like you shared urinalysis results. Was bloodwork run as well? If this is a urine test there appears to be a large amount of bilirubin in the urine which is very abnormal. If bloodwork has not been done it needs to be right away. There are several causes for the abnormalities on your kids urinalysis and for weight loss. Bloodwork helps rule in/out many problems. The next step will then likely be some imaging (xrays, ultrasound). Your kid is young, it is important to run more tests to get to the bottom of the weight loss/poor appetite. The bilirubin is a bit high, as is the ALP (alkaline phosphatase) but neither of these values is super specific in terms of what the cause or the best treatment is. We can see the ALP be elevated with stress, age, and sometimes even normal cell regeneration within the liver. The bilirubin can be slightly elevated when the blood sample is what we call "hemolyzed," which can sometimes happen when blood is spun down for a blood test to be run. Therefore, if he is still showing symptoms of illness, I would echo what Dr Ana said; it may be time to consider imaging. Either X-rays or an abdominal ultrasound maybe helpful in identifying the problem and therefore identifying the best way to treat it. Take him back to the vet if he's still having troubles, as he probably is in need of some more fluids as well. That is very concerning that she is not eating, vomiting, and losing weight. If blood work is normal than your vet could do x-rays and/or an abdominal ultrasound to look for abnormalities. Your vet could also do an ACTH stim test to make sure she is on the correct dose of vetoryl. Your vet could also treat with an anti-nausea medication called Cerenia and an antibiotic called Metronidazole to see if that helps with the vomiting and diarrha. Hope she feels better soon.

A urinalysis would be needed to see if the increased kidney values are because of kidney disease or dehydration. I am concerned about liver failure causing the low protein levels and hypoglycemia. Additional diagnostics would be needed to determine the cause and most appropriate treatment. An ultrasound, biopsy or culture may be indicated. Symptoms can be treated individually, so discuss the use of anti-nausea medications with your vet. Other medications may also be indicated to reduce the effects of digestion with a failing liver, like metronidazole, lactulose, denamarin, and others.

I'm sorry to hear that Caramel is not feeling well. The paperwork showing "female" instead of male is a typo somewhere. Nothing that was run in those tests determine's the dog's sex, so I suspect that was entered wrong at the lab. His kidney values are a bit high, but they aren't crazy high. If a urinalysis was not performed, talk to your vet about running a urinalysis as well, as this will help determine whether those values being high may be in part due to whether or not he is dehydrated (typically the "USG" or "urine specific gravity" is what we are looking for to help interpret this). You may also want to talk to your vet about an abdominal ultrasound (sonogram of the belly); having images of the kidneys and bladder as well as the rest of the abdominal organs (liver, pancreas, GI tract, spleen, adrenal glands) can be helpful in terms of what the most likely cause of his clinical signs are. Another consideration since he is "hardly able to get up" would be a painful condition that's making him not want to move; ask your vet if he seems painful anywhere. To summarize, here is what I recommend you do. Take him to your vet and ask about a urinalysis. Ask your vet if he seems painful anywhere (belly, back, neck, joints). Poor guy. You absolutely need to get some testing done on this guy. I would start with some bloodwork and x-rays to evaluate his organs and intestines for abnormalities. Then go from there depending on the results. There could be a number of things going on here including: pancreas issues, an intestinal problem, kidney disease, etc. So many disease can cause these symptoms, which is why it is so important to start off with some diagnostic testing to narrow things down. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. Based on your history and description, I would recommend an abdominal ultrasound as the next diagnostic step. The protein being low could be related to a GI inflammatory disease or intestinal cancer. X-rays do not show enough detail of the intestines or organs so things can be missed on x-rays that would show up on an ultrasound. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
