Why is my dog throwing up undigested food and losing weight?

Black stool could indicate blood in the stool. Vomiting, and black stool could be caused by parasites, change in diet, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. In the case of an unspayed female dog , pyometra (a potentially fatal infection of the uterus) is a possibility as well, and this is very concerning. Please have Cassie seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, as vomiting and possible blood in the stool can lead to dehydration and anemia, and can be very dangerous if left untreated. I recommend taking in a fecal sample from Cassie to your vet as well, as that may aid them in making a diagnosis. Good luck, and I hope she feels better soon!

Those are all very general signs of illness, and I would be concerned there is a GI issue or underlying illness if she is both losing hair and unable to keep food down/losing weight. Parasites, obstructions, viral illnesses, infections, organ issues, metabolic diseases, etc can all be potential causes, so it would be best to seek out veterinary care from your vet or an ER clinic as soon as possible.

It sounds as Lilly is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

I am concerned that something serious is going on with your dog. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lily. I would recommend that she sees her veterinarian for some testing. She will likely need blood work and a urinalysis to start. She may require x-rays of her abdomen and fecal testing as well. She is likely not eating as her belly hurts from gastrointestinal upset. Some dogs who go long periods in between meals will vomit as a result of the acid building up in the stomach. This may be the cause of her vomiting, but still does not explain her decreased appetite. Offer her small frequent meals in the meantime to encourage her to eat. I hope this information helps!

Poor girl. Cassie sounds very ill and in need of immediate medical care. She is drooling and won’t eat because she is likely nauseous. There are several possible causes of her symptoms including a bacterial infection, viral infection (Parvovirus if she has not been fully vaccinated), or even acute organ malfunction (kidney disease, pancreatitis). She needs to have a proper exam done and bloodwork analysis at the very least to hopefully narrow down the possibilities and find out what is going on internally.
