My dog stopped vomiting, now has diarrhea. Should I wait for vet?

There are lots of things that could cause vomiting and diarrhea in a dog, including dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. If it persists for 24 hours or if Oscar seems lethargic, I would recommend having him seen by a vet where you are vacationing.

If he does not have anymore episodes of vomiting or diarrhea and is feeling better, I would keep an eye on him until the morning and then take him in. If he is lethargic right now, I would get him seen now because he is likely dehydrated and needs fluids administered under the skin for hydration. He may also have eaten something that caused all of this, have an infection or have an intestinal obstruction. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. It could just be a GI illness or Coco may have eaten something rotten. It really is best she sees a vet now, but if you cannot get her into a vet today, it can wait until tomorrow as long as she is drinking and acting normally. If she starts vomiting water, stops drinking water, or becomes very lethargic, she has to see a vet right away.

Oh no poor guy. As long as he isn't lethargic, doesn't have pale gums or is otherwise stable, you can wait the 5 hrs to get him seen. He may be having a stress colitis, in which case antibiotics and probiotics along with a bland diet are the treatment recommendations. However the vet will want to examine him thoroughly so that he is treated appropriately. I hope Boone feels better soon. Best wishes and take care.

Hi there. So sorry to hear that Ozzy is not well. Vomiting and diarrhea are not very specific signs for any one disease process or illness so I can't tell you what is wrong with him. I can tell you that he needs to be seen by your vet at this time. Multiple episodes of vomiting in a short period of time can be a sign of something serious underlying. You did the right thing by treating the diarrhea with a bland diet but now with the vomiting I think he needs to be examined. If your Otto continues to vomit, producing diarrhoea and if he looks unwell and uncomfortable, then please take him to your nearest vet now. If the vomiting stopped and he is able to rest and relax, you can withhold food and water for him and see your regular vets in the morning.

Did he eat anything red in colors? Treats? If he did it may be from that. If he is acting fine and not lethargic, eating well, no bloody diarrhea, no more vomiting then I would say you can wait until tomorrow. If he becomes lethargic, not eating, vomiting continues diarrhea then I would recommend bringing him to a veterinarian sooner. I hope Otis feels better soon.
