My dog throws up despite sensitive food. Could it be allergies?

Poor Caeser! Skin allergies can be so frustrating. If you haven't already, I would consider a prescription hypoallergenic diet like hill's science diet Z/D or their limited ingredient diet or purina's HA diet. A food trial consists of 12 weeks of ONLY these food and the approved treats. If you don't want to go to the expense of these foods, you can try an OTC limited ingredient diet. My favorite is natural balance venison and sweet potato. Chicken and beef are the most common causes of food allergies. As far as the environmental allergies, I would talk to your vet about a long term medication like apoquel. This has been a game changer for a lot of my allergies patients. Finally, considering his loose stool, this could be due to the food or something else entirely. I would have your vet take a look at his stool for parasites, campylobacter and giardia. These can all cause GI problems and can be easily treated. You may also talk to your vet about whether or not Pepcid would be a good option for Caeser. If the vomiting most commonly occurs first thing in the morning before he eats, he could have a small case of acid reflux. This is usually easily fixed by giving Pepcid right before bed time. I would talk to your vet about the appropriate dose for him and whether this could be what is going on. I hope this helps!

I recommend to ask your veterinarian this question. A true food allergy generally requires a special diet (this is generally a prescription food and I always recommend one with a hydrolyzed protein). Dietary intolerance may just need a diet that is formulated for sensitive stomachs. I recommend the Royal Canin or Purina ProPlan. Your vet will be able to guide you as to which type of food to try. Hello, yes GI sensitivities or inflammation of the bowel can definitely elicit intermittent vomiting and a decreased appetite. To further diagnosis the health of her GI tract, Chi may benefit from an abdominal ultrasound or an endoscopic exam. Additionally, GI biopsies may be considered to obtain a definitive diagnosis. There is no need to transition slowly to prevent vomiting since he already vomits on the original diet. I would start a new diet with a different meat protein such as salmon, venison, rabbit, etc. I hope this helps! Poor Pepper! If she has a food allergy/intolerance issue, then she needs to be on a strict veterinary prescription food allergy diet like Hills Z/D or Royal Canin Anallergenic. These diets are called "hydrolyzed protein" diets because they have gone through a special cooking process that breaks down potential allergens in the diet so Pepper's immune system doesn't recognize them as a problem. She needs to eat one of these diets exclusively for 8-10 weeks to see if there is a benefit. Hope that helps!

It's definitely possible that Buddy is allergic to his food as one of the most common food allergies is to chicken. You may want to try a diet with single source or protein that is something Budddy has never had before (like venison or rabbit). An all canned food diet is also preferred and may help with a potential food allergy. One over the counter option is Natural Balance Limited ingredient diet. It would also be a good idea to have Buddy examined by a veterinarian to ensure he does not need medication to treat the itching or vomiting. There are many other causes of these signs so it's important to rule those out first. Your veterinarian can also prescribe a special diet that may work better (like Royal Canin Ultamino) if food allergies are truly at play. Hello. Unfortunately, many dogs are greedy eaters & do not chew their food, but even so, most do not vomit it back up. I would definitely give a wet food a try & see how he does with this. You might also try using Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. If he continues to vomit weekly, which is just too frequently to be ignored, you really should consider having Marco examined. You do not mention his age, but there are certain conditions & problems that may be at fault here, such as a condition called megaesophagus, or even a hiatal hernia. This may also be a true food allergy, so trying a hypoallergenic diet consisting of hydrolyzed proteins may help. See how he does with the wet food & go from there.
