My dog is throwing up, scooting, and has mucus in stool. ER visit?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltipoo | Male | neutered | 9 months and 10 days old | 10 lbs

My 10 month old pup woke up throwing up, stomach rumbling, and dragged his butt across the floor after pooping. His stool seems to have mucus. He did eat his meal and pooped right after as well. It was solid stool the second time. I am trying to get ahold of his vet but it seems like they are busy and cannot take us in today. Do his symptoms warrant an ER visit?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Ruffel. Poor boy! If he hasn't thrown up again recently, I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
