My dog is throwing up phlegm, not eating or drinking. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 16 days old | 10 lbs

My dog has been throwing up since mid day yesterday. She is now just throwing up flem. She is not drinking water or eating. Is this a condition or illness I should be worried about?

I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.

I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or persistent inappetence.

As most of these episodes are dietary related (especially if no other signs are present) I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.
I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

My dog is throwing up a lot and not drinking water. What should I do?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Please, do not give Chapo anything to eat or drink for the next 4-5 hrs, then offer small amount of water. If he keeps it down, you can offer more water and small amount of bland food (cooked chicken or other lean meat) in the next 1-2hrs. If he is taking the food and keeping all down you should give him more every 2-3hrs. However, if Chapo continues to vomit, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment today. Vomiting in otherwise healthy dog is usually caused by stomach upset from gastrointestinal infection, inflamed pancreas, abdominal pain.
