Why is my dog vomiting, not eating, shaking, and having diarrhea?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old

My female two year old chihuahua is not doing well. For the past two days she has been throwing up, not eating, not laying on my bed (which has never happened before) and she has been passing brown loose stools. When I get home she doesn't yelp and run around like she usually does, and when I have food she doesn't act interested at all. She goes crazy and won't leave me alone when I have something. She seems hesitant to sit or lay down and she won't stop shaking. Help.

Hello there and thank you for using Pet Coach. With your description of Bambi's problem, I would be worried about a systemic disease / infection or that maybe she ate something and it is causing a GI obstruction. I would get her seen as soon as possible so that she can receive the appropriate medical treatment as soon as possible. The sooner the better. Hi. Unfortunately this is very concerning. If she isn't moving, shaking and vomiting, she needs to be seen ASAP! She is young so parvo, low glucose, parasites, or even foreign bodies are high on list. Please take her to ER right away

I'm sorry Abby isn't doing well! There could be a couple of reasons why she threw up including a Gi illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, a foreign body, or a pyometra. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Poor Luna sounds quite sick. She could have a severe GI illness, a foreign body, pancreatitis, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a pyometra (infection of the uterus) causing her symptoms. You have tried home remedies without success, so yes it's time to see a vet. I would take her into one now. Best of luck.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! I am sorry to hear that suenos is not feeling well. If she is still not improving with what you have done I would get her to the vet as soon as you can. She may have become quite dehydrated from vomiting and having diarrhea. Your vet can replenish the fluid that she has lost with IV fluids or fluids under her skin. I would also want to know why she started having the vomiting and diarrhea in the first place. I would also recommend she have blood work run to ensure nothing systemic is wrong with her. Pancreatitis can show these symptoms and can cause quite a bit of discomfort in animals that are affected by it. There are blood tests that can be performed to confirm pancreatitis and your vet can surely check for this. X-rays might not be a bad idea to rule out an obstruction in the GI tract as a possible cause as well. Especially if she is a scavenger and eats random things, I would push to have abdominal x-rays done right away. I hope this helps and that she gets better! Why is my dog not eating, vomiting, shaking, and acting confused?

It sounds as your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet urgently, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. . if the vet thinks it is more serious he will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Panda evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. She may be dehydrated from the vomiting and the shivering may not be due to her being cold but may be due to her not feeling well. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. My puppy has bloody diarrhea, threw up dewormer. Is it parvo?

Oh goodness. I am so sorry to hear that Bambi is so sick. I am very concerned about parvovirus with the symptoms that you describe. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. At 1.4 pounds she can become severely dehydrated very quickly. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. My dog is throwing up, not eating, shaking, panting. When to see vet?

I would recommend taking Pups to the vet. These symptoms are very concerning, and probably not related to her mammary nodule. It could be dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. The straining and liquid is likely severe diarrhea - similar to humans, you can strain with diarrhea and have nothing come out. The vet will do a thorough exam and may recommend blood work or x-rays to determine what is going on.

Why is my 9-week-old puppy vomiting, shaking, and having diarrhea?

Poor Bailey! That is very concerning and I don't think it is something that can be treated without some veterinary care. Please call your vet and have him examined and treated asap, especially since the vomiting and diarrhea is bad and he is shaking. He may be getting dehydrated and in need of fluids. He could have a parasite or an infection and your vet can run lab-work to help determine the cause and then recommend a treatment plan. Hope he feels better soon!
