My dog threw up, ate bread, and is not energetic. Vet visit needed?

I would not be overly worried about a single episode of vomiting but I cannot make this call for you. You know your dog best so if you are worried then you should take her in now for an exam. If you want to just watch her for a few hours you can. I would not wait days though. If you monitor her for a few hours and the vomiting continues or she starts with other symptoms (diarrhea, not eating, etc) then she should definitely see a vet.

I recommend monitoring her for the next 24 hours. If she develops diarrhea, has persistent vomiting, stops eating or drinking, becomes lethargic, or acts like she is in pain (abdominal pain), then she should be seen by a veterinarian ASAP.

Hi, I would say based on your description of Ginger's recent activity, decrease in appetite, and vomiting that yes, she is certainly telling you that she does not feel well at all. There are many reasons medically for this sudden change. The best recommendation I can make for Ginger is to take her to your veterinarian so he/she can perform a good physical exam and determine the cause of these recent problems. It sounds like getting into the trash the other day and eating food from the garage she should not have eaten may be causing stomach upset and disinterest in eating her normal food. If she is lethargic and not herself, then I would take her into a veterinary hospital as soon as possible. She may have ingested something toxic in the garage like chocolate, onions, grapes, garlic or other toxin that could have made her sick. Another possibility may be eating items with lots of sugar and fat in them which can cause pancreatitis which can be very painful and could explain the lack of appetite. Another possibility is eating items like nectarine pits or other chunky solid food items may have caused an obstruction in her intestines. She is likely stretching frequently perhaps because she is in some discomfort in abdominal area and she may be trying to get some relief. My best advice to you is to take her in as soon as possible. If she vomits again, has any difficulty pooping (acting constipated) is lethargic, not eating or otherwise acts sick at all, then she needs to go to the vet asap. If she is 100% normal after this, then she may have vomited all the fibers that she ate. Be sure to watch what she is chewing on, puppies get into everything. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Yes I recommend to take Ruby in to be seen by her veterinarian. When pets are sick for 24 hours and not eating well, it’s best to play it safe and have her checked out. There are many causes for not feeling well. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It sounds like Ginny definitely has some GI distress going on if she is very lethargic, vomiting, and not eating. I would schedule a vet visit to have her examined if it continues, and if she seems in severe distress, has a very painful abdomen, or looks bloated, bring her in ASAP or to a local ER clinic. Various causes, such as general GI upset, obstructions, parasites, illness, pancreatitis, etc can all cause similar symptoms to this, so an exam to find the cause is best.
