My dog won't eat, threw up, and is sluggish. Should I call the vet?

Whenever a dog has been vomiting for 24 hours or longer, it is time to see a vet. While it's good to hear that Ruby's vomiting seems to be slowing down a bit, I'm concerned about potential dehydration from the vomiting, especially if she's only had a little bit of water. There can be a number of things that may be going on here and it is very hard to say what exactly is the cause without examining Ruby in person. I would recommend Ruby sees a veterinarian for a hands on exam as soon as possible to help pinpoint where the problem is. Your veterinarian may also recommend x-rays, blood work, fecal testing, or other tests to aide in an accurate diagnosis.

Hi, I would say based on your description of Ginger's recent activity, decrease in appetite, and vomiting that yes, she is certainly telling you that she does not feel well at all. There are many reasons medically for this sudden change. The best recommendation I can make for Ginger is to take her to your veterinarian so he/she can perform a good physical exam and determine the cause of these recent problems. It sounds as Ruby is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. it could also be an imbalance in her diabetes medications. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

No, the questions aren’t linked. I will usually be okay with an upset tummy for 24 hours, so if it’s been longer than that, Quintana should probably see the vet. The green means that her stomach is empty and she is starting to pull fluid from the upper small intestine (where bile enters). The vet may recommend a Parvo test, bloodwork, or x-rays to see what is causing her sickness, and can make an appropriate treatment plan when they have a better idea of the cause of her vomiting.

Since last night was Halloween, think about if there's anything she could have eaten that she shouldn't have and take her to the vet ASAP if you realize your chocolate stash or your entire pan of bacon wrapped something or anothers from the potluck is missing. If you can't think of anything she ate, it's generally ok to wait 24 hours to see if she get back on her food naturally. Sometimes something goes wrong in the gut and we don't know why but it resolves quickly. If she's not back to normal in 24 hours, or has any vomiting or diarrhea in the mean time, she needs to go to her vet for evaluation and supportive care. If he hasn't been eating in two days it is highly abnormal, i would not recommend waiting, he needs to see a vet as soon as possible, it may be an infection or some other condition that requires to be treated with medications.
