Why is my dog vomiting daily with thick stomach lining and no diagnosis?

Poor Buffy! It’s very frustrating when you can’t find the cause. That’s good that your diagnostics have been normal. I don’t have all the history however so it’s a hard to say why she is still vomiting. Underlying things that can caused continued vomiting are things like parasites, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease or a cancer some where. That’s very good that the ultrasound was normal but it doesn’t completely rule cancer out. Luckily, the other conditions are much more common. I recommend to have Buffy dewormed with a broad spectrum medication. Have her stool checked as well for parasites if that hasn’t been done. Have chest X-rays taken to make sure the esophagus looks normal and there’s no pouches or anything that would make her vomit. If possible, test the enzyme levels of the pancreas. Lastly, diagnosing IBD can be difficult. I use a special food made by Royal Canin called Ultamino. She will eat it for 8-12 weeks and during that time, she cannot eat ANYTHING else. If she gets better, you know it’s IBD. Some of these dogs may also require a course of steroids as well. I am very sorry to hear about Sweet. It can be frustrating when we are trying to fix a problem and it doesn’t seem to be improving. It sounds like it is time to do some more advanced testing on Sweet. This may include imaging such as ultrasound of the abdomen, or a barium contrast study. More in depth bloodwork may also be needed to check for underlying endocrine disease such as Addison’s disease or problems with liver or kidney function leading to nausea. The more advanced testing will hopefully provide more guidance as to the cause of Sweet’s issues and guide treatment. Best of luck to you!

Poor girl! If she has already had her biopsy results returned and they were clear then I would worry about cancer somewhere. Although unlikely since she is so young it is definitely possible. You could also have your vet send off a GI panel to check her pancreatic enzymes, cobalamin, and folate levels. If the biopsy results have not come back yet, I would wait for those before trying anything new. It could show several different things including inflammatory bowel disease, change in the musculature, and much more that will help your vet treat her. Biopsies are the best diagnosis for dogs that won't eat and all other tests are normal. I hope this helps and she starts to eat and feel better really soon!

I would talk to your vet about submitting a GI panel or performing biopsies. Even with normal ultrasounds, IBD or lymphoma may not be able to be diagnosed. Empirical deworming may be indicated. Steroid trials may help. Has the thyroid level been checked? There is so much more information we need to be able to help you in this complicated case. A distended abdomen can be due to many things. Here is a list of some possibilites: 1. constipation 2. bloat - I agree that after 12 hours this is unlikely 3. abdominal mass/tumor 4. abdominal fluid (ascites) 5. pyometra - infected uterus; common since she is not spayed I would be worried about this even though she seems to be "normal". If it is an "open" pyometra she may not be feeling as ill as if it were "closed". 6. internal parasites (ie: roundworms, hookworms, etc) Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I suggest you get Nexa to your vet for an exam. Some simple blood testing and a couple x-rays could rule in/out most of the things I have listed above. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I am so sorry Chi hasn't been feeling well. If all the tests were clear then I would recommend having an abdominal ultrasound performed. This would look at the architecture of the intestines and stomach and see if there is anything else that could be going on with Chi. She could have pancreatitis, a foreign object, a bad gastrointestinal upset, and much more going on that may or may not show up on the blood work and might not even show up on X-rays. I would also recommend a bland prescription diet to help settle her stomach also. I would have a ultrasonographer or an internal medicine specialist to perform the ultrasound. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Patsy. Has she had an abdominal ultrasound yet? I will typically recommend this as well as a gastrointestinal specific blood panel prior to biopsies. I assess cobalamin and folate levels as well pancreatic values such as TLI and PLI. These results can help to guide treatment. I hope this information helps!
