My dog is vomiting, not eating, eyes cloudy. Is it rabies or poison?

Sir my dog is sick since evening ...h/o sneezing present since yday night ...nd vomitted twice nd now it s not taking any feeds nd h/o mouth breathing present drooling of secretions reduced ....one eye vision got nd eyes looks cloudy ...whether its symptoms of rabies or poison ingestion tongue appear blackish

I am sorry to hear Giju is not feeling well. It sounds like Giju has a lot going on. It is hard to say what exactly the issue is with Giju without examining him first, but if he is vomiting and not eating, he really should be seen by a veterinarian soon. If his secretions are reduced, he may be very dehydrated from not drinking. An eye looking cloudy may be cataract formation which when present in young dogs can be congenital. It can also signal an endocrine disorder such as diabetes, inflammation of the eye, or from toxicity.

Poison ingestion can have a wide variety of symptoms. Rabies can too, although cataract formation is not a typical sign. Vomiting, increased salivation, disinterest in eating or drinking, sudden behavioral changes such as lethargy or aggression can be signs of rabies.

My best advice is to have Giju seen as soon as possible by a veterinarian so he can be properly diagnosed and treated.

Unfortunately these symptoms are vague and could be a sign of a number of different diseases. He could have some kind of infection, organ damage, or an autoimmune disease. I think the rabies vaccine was likely unrelated especially if he was showing some symptoms prior to vaccination. I’d recommend rechecking with your vet if Hurshy still isn’t improving - they may want to check blood work or perform some other tests since he hasn’t responded to treatment.

It is possible that Zuca is dealing with a systemic illness / infection, dietary indiscretion or GI disease. It is possible that he ingested something that is toxic as well. With these symptoms, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have his blood tested and x-rays taken of his abdomen to start. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Why is my dog lethargic, weak, stiff, and can't lift his head?

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach this afternoon. It is very hard to say what the cause of Rajah's symptoms may be without examining Rajah and running current blood work on him first. The high globulin means there is an inflammatory process occurring in the body. The high amount of immature or new red blood cells means he is using up red blood cells faster than he can supply them. This may indicate a bleed somewhere internally or may also indicate a cancerous process occurring or a severe infection. Rajah's current symptoms are concerning and should be treated very soon with your veterinarian. Sooner rather than later would be better. I would recommend in addition to blood work, an x-ray, or abdominal ultrasound to look for a tumor or free fluid in the abdomen. I hope this helps and I wish you and Rajah the best of luck.

Any time I have administered a vaccination and the animal then begins vomiting or exhibiting any other abnormal symptoms, I treat as a potential adverse vaccination reaction. I would recommend taking him back to the veterinarian that performed the vaccination to have him examined and treated for a potential vaccination reaction. This may have nothing to do with the vaccination but it would be best to have him examined and go from there. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Why is my puppy suddenly listless, weak, vomiting, and not eating?

Poor Butters! I'm sorry to hear that she's sick. There are many things that could cause the symptoms you're describing, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine her and run some tests. Some common possibilities would include infectious diseases like parvo or distemper (if she isn't fully vaccinated), an intestinal obstruction, or ingestion of something toxic. Rabies is extremely rare in pet dogs in the United States and usually causes neurologic signs rather than GI issues, but this is something you can talk to your veterinarian about if you're concerned. Since this sounds like a serious problem, I would strongly recommend taking Butters to the vet today for an exam. He/she can test her for parvo and may also recommend lab work or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem so she can get started on appropriate treatment right away.

Pokey sounds very ill and needs immediate veterinary treatment. This could be from poison or more likely an infection, metabolic problem or cancer. She definitely needs IV fluids to prevent dehydration which can become life threatening. In general with most poisons they would die quickly. Since this has been going on for a few days there is a good chance with proper treatment she could recover quickly. My senior dog is coughing, vomiting, lethargic, and won't eat. Why?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear about Booda, she sounds very sick. Since she is vomiting, acting lethargic, not eating and having neurological signs, I would have her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Especially in an older Golden, cancer is a top differential for the cause of her clinical signs. Your veterinarian will want to do a complete physical exam, along with bloodwork and/or x-rays to look for evidence of disease. Because she is coughing, I'm afraid she may have cancer in her lungs, or less likely something like pneumonia. Unfortunately, you may have to consider thinking about her quality of life. Vomiting, coughing, not eating and being unresponsive to stimuli are not indicative of a good quality of life. I hope this is helpful, and I'm very sorry to hear about Booda.
