Dog vomited pink chunks, not lethargic. Is it serious or insect spray?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 8 years and 8 months old | 10 lbs

My dog woke up and started gagging, suddenly he vomited chunks and pink colored. It looks like it could possibly be his food, but I was worried about the vomit being pink. About 20 minutes after he vomitted again chunks with pink color. I was thinking of all the possibilities that he could of gotten sick from and we got our house sprayed with insect spray about 5 days ago, could that be it? He isn’t lethargic or sick looking, after he vomits he is running around and playing again.

I'm so sorry to hear that Harley has vomited. If there is any artificial red coloring in his food, then that can cause a pink coloration to the liquid when he vomits. It is also possible that it is blood if he has irritated his esophagus a little when he vomited.
It would be very unlikely that an insect spray from 5 days ago would cause vomiting, but I would certainly look at the ingredient list of the spray. You may be able to find more information about the chemicals in the spray at the ASPCA Poison Control website ( https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control ).
There are a huge number of reasons that a dog can vomit and sometimes we don't figure out the cause. What we normally recommend for a dog that has vomited once or twice and appears to feel fine is to offer small amounts of water at a time for a period of 6-8 hours, then start offering small amounts of food at a time. If the vomiting continues, Harley does not feel well, or he does not want to eat, then I would recommend taking him to your vet for some anti-nausea medication and an investigation about the cause of the vomiting.

    Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is incredibly unlikely for the insect spray to be the cause, as insect toxin usually works on a neurological system that isn't present in dogs. To be sure you can call the company that did the spraying, however this is unlikely to be the cause. If there is vomiting food with a bit of pink (suspect a bit of blood) and Harley is otherwise happy and playing, just continually vomiting up undigested food, I would be very concerned about a foreign body. This would be an object that he would have eaten (sock, underwear, toy) that is blocking his gut and not letting anything pass. Other causes including a severe gastritis, pancreatitis, and cancer in the gut. I would recommend having Harley seen by your vet right away, and they will most likely recommend x-rays. Best of luck with Harley, I hope he feels better soon!

I am concerned about a few possibilities: toxin - I am not familiar with the plants and animals native to South Africa but we have a few in the states that can do this parasites- a worm burden in the stomach or small intestine can cause this bleeding disorder - certain tick borne illnesses can cause bleeding ingestion of an acid or caustic agent, heat stroke, bleeding ulcer, electric shock, and cancer of the stomach or intestines can all ado this. I would recommend seeing the vet as soon as possible. He or she may recommend bloodwork and/or medications to stop the vomiting and ease nausea. Best wishes to you and Dapple.

My dog vomited red, but acts normal. Is it blood? What should I do?
Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can definitely see that Koda's vomit is reddish in color and has some red flecks in it. It is possible that the vomit has blood in it, though I would not expect it to have flecks in it. It is possible that Koda ate something that was red/pink in color that made his vomit this color. However, even the possibility of blood in vomit is cause for concern as this can be caused by stomach ulcers, foreign bodies, or certain toxins. I recommend keeping a very close eye on Koda, and having her examined immediately if this happens again or your believe you are seeing something that looks like frank blood or dark coffee grounds in her vomit. She should also be seen immediately if you think there is a chance that she may have eaten something she shouldn't have or has gotten into human medications. Until she can be seen by a vet tomorrow, I recommend not giving her any food and only offering small amounts of water. There are emergency clinics in most cities that are open 24 hours. My dog threw up, is lethargic, and has labored breathing. What to do?
Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am suspicious that this could be something other than gastrointestinal issues from that. It is hard to know what exactly is going on however he is displaying some signs of potentially being sick such as labored breathing, lethargy and vomiting. I highly recommend that you have Harley evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to perform a physical examination and start there depending on what they think could be wrong. For example, if his lung sounds appear abnormal, they may proceed with chest X-rays. They can then treat accordingly. Good luck and have a good night!

My dog is throwing up pink frothy vomit. Should I take him to the vet?
It could be, the pink tinge might be blood, indicating that he has swallowed something that injured his throat or stomach or he has vomited so much his esophagus is irritated enough to bleed. Either way, I strongly recommend getting him in to see a vet right away, especially if the vomiting has been going on for some time.

My dog threw up pink after heartworm meds. Is it blood or normal?
I would not worry too much about the pinkishness. This could be from coloring in the medication or from strenuous vomiting. As long as the vomitus is not frank blood, I would not worry about it. It is quite possible that he is suffering from a side effect of the Interceptor. This will usually pass. However: Throwing up can be caused by a food sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Jack for 24 hours and then put the dog on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the vomiting or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, it needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

My puppy threw up pink, tried to vomit. What should I do now?
It sounds as Mark is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

My dog vomited pinkish-red and has diarrhea. Should I see a vet?
The color of the vomit could be caused by some blood (e.g. an injury in the esophagus) or coloring of the food he ate or severe inflammation somewhere in the gastrointestinal tract. Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Max for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or stays bloody, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
