My Shih Tzu vomited with bloody stool, but seems fine. Vet needed?

This is a serious medical problem that can become life threatening. It could be parvovirus or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, or due to a severe intestinal parasite overload. Regardless she could become severely dehydrated and anemic so she needs veterinary care right away. They will give fluids and medication to control the vomiting and diarrhea. Blood doesn't immediately indicate parvo, but parvo can cause bloody stool and no vaccine is 100%. Other issues such as irritation of the lower GI tract from allergies, illness, parasites, etc, can cause blood in the stool as well. It would be best to bring in a stool sample of Oso's to your vet and have him and it examined to find the cause.

Hello, sorry to hear about Paigee. It most instances, bloody diarrhea is caused by inflammation of the GI tract. If frank blood, this is most often a large intestine inflammation, if dark blood, then this could be from the stomach or small intestine. Most often, inflammation of the GI tract is caused by some form of dietary indiscretion and is self limiting to a few days. If signs worsen, if she develops vomiting, innapetence, pain or lethargy, then she should be seen by a veterinarian. If she has frank blood diarrhea, she should be seen by her veterinarian. In the interim, you may try to feed her a bland diet of plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken, and low fat cottage cheese for the next 3-5 days. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hello! I wouldn’t be too worried about lily at this point. if she is otherwise feeling good, I might try her on a very bland diet for a few days. An example of a bland diet would be boiled skinless chicken breast and steamed white rice (1 part chicken to 2-3 parts rice). If the diarrhea is persisting or if her appetite decreases or if she begins vomiting then I would have her veterinarian evaluate her. It would be a good idea to bring a sample of her stool in if the diarrhea continues so her vet can screen for intestinal parasites. I hope lily is back to herself very soon!

It sounds as Momori is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

You can see a period of not pooping after a dog has diarrhea, so I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Give Cleo canned food and add water to it. If she hasn't pooped by tomorrow, then I would be worried and have her seen by her vet. Best of luck.
