My dog ate vitamin B complex, now has watery stool. Is it toxic?

B12 isn't likely to make your dog sick, but you can call your vet to make sure. If you have doubts, I suggest calling a pet poison helpline, such as this one: http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/contact/ If it has been less than 2 hours since your pet ate it, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than two hours and it will have already moved into the intestines.

Hello, I do not believe you need to worry. Vitamin B is water soluble and therefore, in theory, any excess should be urinated out. I would recommend monitoring her for the day. I would recommend making the dog vomit. You can try hydrogen peroxide at home or take him to a vet for them to induce vomiting. Usually dogs will vomit if they ingested the pills in the last hour or two. Fultium is a vit D supplement. My concerns is that it might decrease the Calcium released by the body and interfere with the hyperparathyroid gland. If you cannot get her to vomit I would recommend taking her to a vet. It is very important to monitor her for eating,drinking, defecating and seizure activity. IF at any time she is acting abnormal or not herself I would highly recommend taking her to a vet.

If it is a ''gummy'' tablet it may cause gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting or diarrhea. The toxicity from the single components (Vitamins, mineral etc etc) depends on their concentration. Generally speaking it should be a major concern as the concentration is quite low. If there is xylitol inside the tablet that may be dangerous, and in case of ingestion, your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian. The ingestion of xylitol or xylitol-containing products causes a rapid release of the hormone insulin, causing a sudden decrease in the dog's blood glucose. Signs to look for are: lethargy, vomiting, loss of coordination, collapse, and eventually seizures.

Since she only ate 1 pill, I would not be worried about toxicity. The doses in the vitamins for each of the components should not be harmful. You may see some GI signs such as poor appetite, vomiting or diarrhea, but should resolve. If symptoms continue, I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian.

You're right. The berberine is the only ingredient that would cause me a little concern. But the dose to reach significant toxicity is really high. You may see hypersalivation, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If these symptoms last longer than 24 hours or if Hops seems to be getting progressively ill, she should definitely get checked out. Otherwise I think she will be fine. Now that she has done this once, she may be prone to trying again, so make sure to keep ALL medications and supplements locked away from her! Have a great day!
