My dog has vestibular disease and won't eat. Is Gatorade & eggs safe?

Sometimes hand feeding can make things easier, and this is often easier to do by making meatballs of canned food and hand feeding them to your pup. You could also ask your vet if a secondary anti-nausea medication could be added to help. There is one called Cerenia that comes as an injectable the vet can give but also as an oral pill you can give at home.

She might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this, maybe she is suffering from a gastrointestinal infection as a result. withhold food for 12 hours then offer Spirit boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she continues vomiting or is not eating after the 12 hours withholding food, take her to the vet to get treatment.

You can try baby food, low fat yogurt, boiled chicken and rice, or lean ground beef with no seasonings, or scrambled egg. You can also substitute the water for Gatorade or pedialyte to give her a few calories and electrolytes that way

Hi, it is difficult to tell 100% if the symptoms are related to a peripheral vestibular syndrome or a central vestibular syndrome, as with the peripheral one (affecting the inner ear only) you can have disorientation as well..only advanced imaging will be able to tell if it is just a problem related to the inner ear or if the brain could be affected too. If unable to undergo imaging, then you will have to wait and see what happens, encourage her to eat, mix fresh cooked chicken with hotdog. Have anti sickness medications if necessary, and/or everything else recommended by your vet. Hope this helps !

If Mila is drinking, offer unflavored PediaLyte or similar sugar free electrolyte solution. A bland diet should be fed as well. This can be plain white rice mixed 1:1 with one of the following: boiled boneless/skinless chicken breast, ground turkey, ground beef (cooked/drained) or cottage cheese. You can serve it warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate her appetite. Feed until the stool is normal before slowly transitioning to a quality puppy food.

It is possible she's developed an aversion to her regular food due to the recent sickness you've described. I am unsure if her food made her sick or not but I would make sure there are no recent reports of illness or recalls associated with this food. I recommend feeding a bland, easy to digest food such as homemade, boiled chicken breast mixed with white rice. If she eats this well with no vomiting or diarrhea for a couple days, you can gradually mix in her old food to reintroduce it or try a different type of dog food.

That does make things a bit concerning, but I can give you a home remedy for Nessa to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
