Dog on urinary food peeing a lot. How often should I take him out?

A pet should always have access to fresh water. You can set up a schedule for going out. For example, take them out first thing in the morning, around midday, dinner time and just before bed. For the puppy, the general rule is to go no longer than 1 hour per month of age plus one hour before allowing him to go out to eliminate. This means the Husky should be taken out every 6 hours.

He may have a urinary tract infection if it has a foul odor and he is urinating more than once every hour. If that is the case then a brief exam and urinalysis through your vet should be able to detect the problem. Some puppies are just fascinated by water and drink constantly regardless of thirst. The 25 ounces is about double what Wallace needs per day, dog’s typically drink 1-2 ounces per pound. Hi there! It sounds like little Woody needs to visit the vet. Frequent urination can indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI). When bacteria develop in the bladder, it inflames the urethra (the tube out which a male dog urinates), and causes a dog to feel like he has to pee all the time. I would be even more suspicious of this if he has little urine coming out when he's trying to urinate. A UTI is probably not an emergency at this point, but it is likely to be very uncomfortable if this is the case. While very unlikely at this age, it is possible for the urethra to swell so much that it blocks the passage of urine, which quickly becomes a life-threatening situation. I strongly suggest bringing Woody to the vet ASAP if the frequent urination continues. In the meantime, make sure he has access to plenty of water to keep the bladder and kidneys flushed out. There isn't much that you can do for him at home safely aside from this. Do be on the lookout for blood in the urine, as this is another indicator of a UTI. If he is asleep, let him sleep but take him out immediately after he wakes up to go. He should also go out with in 30 minutes of eating and drinking. If you notice him stop playing and start circling, then this is an indication he is about to go. Your time frame is good for waking hours, but through the night, you may have to let him out once until he gets a little bigger to hold it through the night.

You can reasonably expect a puppy to hold its bladder and bowels for as many hours as they are months old. Keep your puppy on a consistent daily feeding schedule and remove food between meals. If all goes well, gradually increase the amount of time he can spend out of confinement. Accompany your puppy outside and reward him whenever he eliminates outdoors with praise, treats, or play. Take your puppy to the same place each time because the smells often prompt puppies to eliminate. If you catch your puppy in the act of eliminating inside, clap sharply twice, just enough to startle but not scare him. Immediately run with him outside, encouraging him to come with you the whole way. Allow your pup to finish eliminating outside, and then reward him with happy praise and a treat. If he has nothing to eliminate when he gets outside, don’t worry. Just be more watchful of him inside. If your puppy has an accident but you don’t catch him in the act and only find the accident afterward, do not punish him. He cannot connect the punishment with something he did minutes, let alone hours ago.
