Dog has upset stomach, mucus in poop, but acting normal. What to do?

Poor Daisy. The white mucus can be caused by inflammation of the large intestine. If she has been having diarrhea for more than 24 hours, then it's time to have her seen by a vet. Should it be less than 24 hours, I can give you a home remedy for her. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Mucus generally means inflammation and this can come from parasites (like worms and giardia), a diet not right for Lucy's body or bacterial over growth. A bland diet for 3 days can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A probiotic may also be beneficial. I recommend Purina FortiFlora if you can find it. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Lastly, if the mucus continues after 2 weeks, have Lucy checked for worms and giardia by her veterinarian. I hope this helps.

Please, put Nellie on a bland diet for 2-3 days (cooked chicken or other lean meat with rice or pasta) and get her a probiotic. You can buy probiotics for dogs over-the-counter at pet shops, local vets or online. If the diarrhoea does not resolve in 3-4 days time or Nellie starts to vomit or act unwell, please take her to your local vets for an appointment.

Hi there. Diarrhea can be caused by a multitude of things. Increased mucous makes me suspicious of parasites first. I would recommend taking your pup in to have a fecal. Based on the findings of this, you can choose how best to proceed after this easy step is ruled out. It may also be that Pandora has an upset stomach due to something she's eaten and has thrown her digestive system off.
