My dog was unresponsive after beach play. Was he just exhausted?

Hello. As long as Mike is still eating, drinking, and playing later in the day I would assume he is just tired. If it was very hot out today then you may want to have Mike checked out, but if he is eating, drinking, not vomiting, and not having any other problems you can keep an eye on him for now.

It could be that she is just exhausted from playing in the sea all day, or she could have drank too much sea water upsetting her stomach. If you are concerned that she looks really ill, then it's fine to have her seen by a vet right away. Otherwise, allow her to sleep, and make sure to leave water out at all times for her. When she's ready to drink, she will have some water. Sleeping for two to three hours isn't much, I'd be more concerned if she was sleeping all day long. If she still isn't drinking water in the morning and still seems ill, you can bring her into the vet for a health check.

Yes, dogs do get sore muscles just like us! It sounds like Auggie might have just overdone it yesterday. If he is eating and drinking normally, and just tired, he is likely just still worn out and sore. If he still seems not himself after 24-48 hours I'd be worried it might be more serious and consider taking him in for a vet visit and potentially some anti-inflammatory pain medication.

It could be that Shadow played a lot while at your girlfriend's house, and the excitement of going to a new place and then back home may have tired her out. Given that this lethargy just started today, I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Keep an eye on her, and if she is still acting this way after 24 hours or she develops other signs such as not eating, vomiting, and refusing to drink water, then I would be concerned. It could just be you are doing too much with Kitty, and she is tired and taking a break. Gradually increasing activity can help, as well as providing plenty of breaks. If this is a new or sudden symptom for her, or she seems in distress after exercise (wheezing, turning pale, struggling to get about, etc) then it is best to have her examined by your vet for exercise intolerance and to try and find a cause.

They may have been exhibiting breeding behavior if they are male and female dogs resulting in exhaustion or just very tired from roaming while away from your home. I wouldn't encourage any playing. Let them rest up. As long as your dog is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom normally then I wouldn't be too concerned but if any seems different, the best bet is to have your veterinarian evaluate them. They can perform a physical exam, take their temperature, and advise any tests (fecal, blood, xrays, ultrasound, etc) which would help them with a diagnosis. Or they may just prescribe some medication if that is indicated. Good luck with your dog and I hope things return to normal soon.

If lethargy is the only sign you are seeing at the moment, I would continue to monitor him for now as this could be just a transient thing due to discomfort from a long hike for example, among other possibilities.
