Why is my dog sick, sleeping, and not drinking after the beach?

Hi, I think it is best to have Millie checked over. It is difficult to tell without examining her what could be wrong. A urine test will help, by looking at her urine concentration and if any bacteria are present. It could be a urine infection, or could she have drunk too much salty water ? A check up will reassure you that it is nothing too serious and how to move forward. I hope she gets better soon and that she continues to enjoy her walks at the beach as soon as she gets better !

It sometimes takes longer than 12 hours for a sick animal to get better. You will still have to try and hand feed her and syringe water into her if possible. If she does not start drinking after 24 hours, then your veterinarian may have to put her on iv fluids. Once she is hydrated she will likely feel less nauseous and will start drinking again and hopefully eating. Keep her comfortable, and tend to her like you would tend to a sick child. Give it some time.

I also had an incidence one where my dog drank a lot of salt water at the beach, but she unfortunately vomited all in my car! Good idea to keep him hydrated, and it's a good sign that he is eating drinking, and playing with his toys. I would try to rest Whiskey tonight, and have him stay as quiet as possible so his stomach can heal up from the salt water. Should he start vomiting, the diarrhea continues, he becomes lethargic, he stops eating, or shows any concerning symptoms, I would have him seen by a vet right away. Hopefully, however, this will pass relatively quickly.

I suspect that he may have drank salt water. This can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The white foam and bile is OK and just indicates that she's vomiting on an empty stomach. If she is otherwise acting normal, then it's best to just wait for a few hours and let the stomach rest. Do not give good for at- least five hours after the last vomit, but make sure she has plenty of water. You can also add Pedialyte to the water to help prevent dehydration. When you do feed her again, make sure to only give a quarter of the amount she normally gets. If she keeps that down after two hours, you can give her a little more and then feed normally at the next meal time. Your dog could have a severe GI illness, [pancreatitis](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/canine-pancreatitis), a foreign body causing an [obstruction](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/bowel-obstruction-in-dogs), or may have eaten something rotten. I recommend withhold food for 12-24 hours, and then feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice in small amounts for several times a day. After a couple of days of the bland diet, you can slowly add back in her normal diet. If she continues to vomit in the absence of food, vomits the bland diet, stops drinking water and vomiting water, has diarrhea, and/or becomes very lethargic, you need to take her into your vet immediately.

I'm very sorry Sadie isn't feeling well! I can understand they you might be worried, but it is a good sign that she is eating every meal and drinking water. Lethargy is a very general sign of illness, and it can be caused by many different things such as systemic illness, infection, injury, or inflammation. I would monitor her for now, and if she is still lethargic in 24-48 hours, I would take her into the vet for a health check.

I am sorry to hear about Mia. If she is very lethargic/weak, has blood in the vomit, or has a painful abdomen then I think she needs to be seen by her vet right away. If she seems energetic then you can try removing her food and water and fasting her for 6 hours (no food, no water,no treats, no grass or things in the yard if she goes outside) and see if the vomiting stops.
