My dog has a tummy ache and small, thin poops. What can I give her?

If you choose to try this, find a protein source that Roxy has likely never had before (such as venison, salmon, rabbit, etc.) and mix the new food with her old food over 5-7 days. Exclusively feed this diet without any other table scraps or treats. It can take at least 6-8 weeks to determine if a diet change is effective. If her belly issues continue, Roxy should take a trip to her vet for an exam and stool sample analysis for parasites. I hope that all goes well!

Hello. Roxy may be constipated, but she may also just be having some spasms in her gut. Feed her very lightly tonight, just a bit of boiled chicken & a tablespoon or two of white rice. Do not feed her after 10 pm in case your vet wants to take x-rays. An empty stomach is always best for an exam. Hopefully, your veterinarian will get things straightened out for Roxy very soon. It sounds as Roxy is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hello, I am sorry for your concerns for Mochi. We often recommend pumpkin to add more bulk or fiber to the diet, so I do not think it will help much in this case. You can try giving her some famotidine ( Pepcid ), 5 mg every 12 hours for a few days to see if this does not settle things down. Keep her on the bland diet of boiled chicken & white rice ( 25% chicken, 75% rice ), or a little low fat cottage cheese for a few more days, as well. Feed small, but frequent meals. Adding a probiotic cannot hurt. I like Proviable or Forti Flora. If she does not straighten out in a short time, or she starts vomiting, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.

In looking up this plant, I can't find any information that they are toxic to dogs, but it is possible that eating it upset her stomach. Given that Roxy isn't acting any differently and is eating, I wouldn't be too worried about her just yet. I would be more worried if she having persistent diarrhea, is vomiting frequently, and isn't eating or drinking. You can try offering her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Should she return to normal (i.e. no vomiting or diarrhea), then she will be just fine. I would have her seen by a vet, however, if she starts vomiting more or having persistent diarrhea, or she stops eating and drinking. I hope this helps!

Hello, sorry to hear about Roxy. I would recommend having her evaluated if her clinical sings persist, especially if she is a dog that likes to chew toys, sticks, or get into the trash. Our biggest concern is that she may have a foreign object she may have swallowed that is stuck in her stomach or intestines. Other causes in dogs her age include dietary indiscretions or infections. Causes of diarrhea can be from: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), new treats/dog food/table food, toxin ingestion, food allergy/intolerance. If Rosebud is fully vaccinated and has been thoroughly dewormed and has had stool samples checked then I would with hold food for 12-24 hours. Do not take away water unless vomiting. After the fast offer a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If she continues to not eat or starts to vomit, she needs to see your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Rosebud a speedy recovery!
