My dog tripped and limped. Walks fine, but won't run fast. Is he okay?

Me and my dog were running and he tripped. He started to limp for 30 seconds and then started walking normally and even when I touch or squeeze his legs he doent not show any sign of pain. Is he okay.? What can I do to make sure at home? He is walking normally how he used to but when I try to run again with him he just jogs he doesnt sprint like he used to

If he is acting normal at home when walking around then he might have a sprain or strain that is causing him pain while running. The best thing would be to rest him for a while and then see how his is when you take him running. If he is still reluctant to run or he has any lameness at home when just walking around then he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can take an x-ray to diagnose and then prescribe medications to helps. He may need an anti-inflammatory to treat.

Poor pup. Unfotunately we can't diagnose a musculoskeletal issue without doing some kind of exam or test (radiographs) on your puppy. The first step is to get him properly examined. After the exam, if the vet feels that it is severe enough, an x-ray will be recommended to look at the bones and joints for any signs of disease.
Best case scenario is that your pup just has a mild leg sprain, which usually doesn't cause the pet to be in much pain, but just sore in the area of the injury. They can still walk on the leg, but maybe with a slight limp. If this is the case, then have Sakru take it easy for the next week or two to see if this can resolve on its own. If things don't resolve however, or seem to worsen at any point, its best to then have Sakru examined by your vet for further diagnostics and treatment.

With his history the limping could be due to a soft tissue injury like a muscle strain but dogs also have a ligament in their knee that can get injured and cause significant issues. Other possible causes include a puncture wound or pad injury. If the limping continues he should get checked out by his veterinarian. Do not give any human medications as they can be toxic but restricting his activity/rest is safe.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Charlie's care today! Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Poor Dexter. I'm glad to hear he isn't painful when you manipulate and palpate his leg. He likely has a soft tissue injury like a sprain. These will usually heal on their own with rest. I would recommend to rest him for a couple of days and if he isn't improved by Monday or Tuesday then I would let your vet do an exam and potentially some X-rays to ensure there is nothing more serious going on. Izzy may have sprained the leg. I would observe her and see whether it gets worse or better. Should the lameness get worse, have her examined by a veterinarian. Make sure she rests, and only leash walk her for the next few days.

My dog is limping after running. Vet or home care for his hip?

Poor guy. If he can bear weight on the limb at all, then it is ok to give him 24-72 hrs with strict activity restrictions (leash walk only, no jumping, running, etc), rest, and cold compresses on the seemingly painful area (the hip), and then taking him in to the vet if not improved. However if he is not bearinng any weight on the leg, it is best to take him in asap because a more serious injury has occurred that needs to be determined via x-ray and treated right away.

My dog slipped downstairs, limping, not sore. Is it a sprain?

Poor Becks! It's possible that he may have sprained or twisted it when he slipped. If he's acting okay otherwise, I would recommend restricting his exercise for the next few days to see if the limping resolves - short leash walks outside to potty, no running or jumping. There are unfortunately no over-the-counter human pain medications that are safe to give him, so I wouldn't recommend giving him anything right now. If it's a minor injury like a sprain, he should be back to normal in 2-3 days. If there is no improvement in the next few days, or if he seems excessively painful, it would be best to have him seen by a vet since he may need x-rays to help determine what's wrong. Your vet can also prescribe safe and effective pain medication for him if needed.

Limping can mean a lot of different things, including a muscle sprain or a ligament injury. It also depends on which leg is affected and exactly where the injury is on the limb. It is best to get your pet evaluated by a vet who can do a lameness exam to localize where the problem is on the leg. They will be able to recommend the appropriate treatment, whether it is just anti-inflammatory medication or potential surgery if the injury is involving the ligament. Many dogs will appear to act completely normal with a knee ligament injury.

Hi. Poor Moose. He most likely has a sprain or strain of a muscle, tendon, or ligament. This can happen if your dog stretches too far, too much, slips, falls, or jumps during normal play. Strains and sprains can be sudden, or older and worsening. They can range from mild to severe. Dogs can overdo it, and these injuries are very common occurrences. The main treatment for these is to have your pet examined, xrays taken, and then yout veterinarian will most likely prescribe nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to ease inflammation. REST will be the most important part of the healing process. No running. No jumping, no crazy play for 4-6 weeks. Your first step will be to rest him and th4n call your veterinarian in the morning.

My dog is limping and lethargic. Is it time for a vet visit?

If he was behaving normally otherwise, then watching him at home would have been recommended, but since he is lethargic as well, he really should be seen. It could be anything from a strain or pull to orthopedics injury to infection. A physical exam, xrays and a screening for tick borne diseases would be recommended. Treatment will depend on the diagnosis. In the meantime, restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination and avoid excessive running, jumping or rough play until he sees the doctor.
