My dog's tooth made a hole in her lip. Should I take her to the vet?

I would probably not use Neosporin so close to the mouth, as it can easily be licked off and since it's not made for dogs I can't tell you for sure that it's safe for them to ingest. If it's not a complete puncture you can clean it with mild soap, gauze, and warm water. Watch for pus and swelling, and do see a vet if you notice any of these as Moonshine may need antibiotics.

If she does not have a history of a traumatic wound, she could have an infected tooth. This can create an abscess under the skin that can rupture open. I recommend making an appointment with your vet when they open to take a look at it. Though she isn’t acting painful, it may become painful or infected. There isn’t anything you can do at home and no safe medications you can give for pain. If it is broken, she will likely need to undergo anesthesia to have the tooth removed. It is possible it is a bite or sting, or an infection. A veterinarian would also need to look inside her mouth at her teeth and the inner surface of the lip. For what it is worth, there should not be leftover antibiotics unless the veterinarian told you to stop giving them. And I definitely do not recommend giving them without being instructed by your veterinarian. Antibiotic resistance is a big problem that can be made worse by giving them when they aren't needed, or stopping them before they have been finished. If Roxy is pawing at the face, rubbing the area, I definitely recommend having it looked at to determine if it seems more likely to be infection or allergic reaction. If this just popped up and doesn't seem to be distressing her, you could wait 24 hours to see if it goes away. If she will let you, an ice cube can be rubbed over the area to decrease inflammation.

What you see as a beige dot is the opened up pulpa of the tooth, This is indeed painful and also an entry way for bacteria. In young dogs (usually puppies) this can cause them to contract tetanus. You would not notice whether she was in pain as dogs do not chew with their incisors. You should take her to your vet to have that damaged tooth either repaired or removed in order to avoid some bacterial infection as well as to take the pain.

It's unfortunately not possible to post pictures here, it's only possible through our private consultation system. A swollen lip can be caused as a result of a trauma (injury) or insect bite. If it is bleeding a lot I would recommend taking her to the vet as it is quiet difficult to treat at home, it's a delicate location to stop the bleeding or prevent the dog from licking it. If it's just bleeding a little bit and slightly swollen, it is likely to get better within a few days, try to keep the area clean as much as you can, avoid feeding wet food and make sure her water is changed several times a day.
