My dog's tooth extraction site hurts, food stuck. What to do?

Given that Timmy did have a dental cleaning three weeks ago, then I suspect that this is more likely normal and it can happen with dogs. Food can get stuck, and I would rule out a dental problem since he's had a cleaning so recently. I hope this helps!

Oh goodness, that does not look great. It seems he broke down the stitches and there is debris in the excraction site. Hopefully it is just food and debris and not an infection. Do you have a syringe? Squirt gun? Anything you could make shift to use to “rinse” out the hole? A warm water rinse to the area to try to flush out the debris may make it look a lot better. This may be an indication of oral pain from the extraction. I would recommend speaking with the veterinarian about pain management and add on additional pain medications. The suture used to close the extraction site may be causing some irritation as well. I would maybe have the veterinarian take a look at the mouth to be on the safe side. I hope this helps!

You may try applying an ice pack wrapped in a small towel to the swollen or painful area. I DO NOT recommend giving him any pain medications that intended for humans, as these can be fatally toxic to dogs. I recommend contacting your veterinarian during normal business hours to ask for other suggestions. If it has been this long and he is still painful, there may be a complication that needs to be addressed. I hope this is helpful!

It sounds like Gus may have gotten used to being a picky eater and so is holding out on you. I would try only offering him his food (either wet or prepared as normal) and then picking it up and trying again a few hours later if he doesn't eat it after about 15 minutes. You will also want to avoid giving him any extras, treats, people food, etc outside of his meal. If he still doesn't eat after a day or so, then it is possible he could still be not feeling very well, and a recheck of his mouth and gums would be best to make sure there isn't an infection, poorly healing extraction, etc, causing discomfort.

Snickers is a cutie! I would ask if he has been checked since he had all the teeth removed? The doctor needs to make sure all the extraction sites are healed and there is no inflammation present indicating there could be a problem. If he has not been examined recently, I would recommend to have him checked. Some dogs will like excessively once the teeth are removed. Being that he is a long haired little dog, it could also be that the hair is now sticking in his mouth. Keep the hair trimmed short around his mouth. Also check his lips to make sure you don't see any infection or redness. I hope this helps!

Hello. This is all VERY normal after a significant extraction of infected teeth. A little blood mixed in with saliva is causing the pink slime, & Maxi will hopefully learn to reposition her tongue, but many dogs without any more teeth will keep some of their tongue exposed.
