Why is my dog throwing up white chunks and acting very lethargic?

There are many causes for [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/) and lethargy in dogs. Your dog could have a severe GI illness, [pancreatitis](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/canine-pancreatitis), a foreign body causing an [obstruction](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/bowel-obstruction-in-dogs), or may have eaten something rotten. I recommend withhold food for 12-24 hours, and then feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice in small amounts for several times a day. After a couple of days of the bland diet, you can slowly add back in her normal diet. If she continues to vomit in the absence of food, vomits the bland diet, stops drinking water and vomiting water, has diarrhea, and/or becomes very lethargic, you need to take her into your vet immediately.

I am sorry to hear about Sam. Repeated vomiting is not normal, and I would be concerned there is something else going on here. If Sam is a dog who gets into trash or has a sensitive stomach he may just have a case of gastritis from this, and a period of fasting and reintroduction with a bland diet may help. If his vomiting persists or he becomes lethargic/weak or develops diarrhea, he should be seen by his vet for examination.

Poor Wally! Vomiting can be caused by a large number of conditions such as intestinal parasites, pancreatitis, foreign bodies, and dietary indiscretion. Most of these conditions are fairly dangerous, and are possible causes for vomiting/lethargy lasting close to 24 hours. Your vet can perform bloodwork and x-rays, as well as an ultrasound to rule out the conditions above. In the meantime, I recommend keeping a close eye on Wally, and offering him small amounts of water and food (about 1/2 of his normal portion). It sounds as Romeo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

It sounds as though Samson may have injured himself while playing at the dog park. He could have a sprain or strain of one of his muscles or ligaments in his joints. He may have over done it at the park and become slightly overheated as well. Make sure he has plenty of access to water and a comfortable place to rest for the night. If he continues being lethargic, limping and/or vomiting over the weekend I would recommend taking him to be checked out by your vet on Monday.

Possible causes of vomiting include GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or a pancreatitis. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what is causing his vomiting, but I can say that when a dog is vomiting for longer than 24 hours, it's time to see a vet. I would take Scooby into a vet now to diagnose what is causing his vomiting so he can be treated. I hope this helps!

Hi, thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach and I am sorry to hear about Sammy. Min. Schnauzers are a breed in particular that are known to have some gastrointestinal/pancreas problems and in general have a more sensitive stomach. Sammy is a young do so this may not apply to him. In a younger dog having some intermittent gastrointestinal problems usually the top reasons for this problem may be intestinal parasites or dietary indiscretion. I would recommend taking a fecal sample to Sammy's veterinarian to check for parasites. If you are able to, temporarily change him to a bland diet of cooked chicken and rice for 1-2 days then slowly change back to his normal diet. If his appetite declines, vomiting persists, and/or diarrhea worsens he should be evaluated right away by his doctor. Best of luck with Sammy.
