My dog keeps throwing up. What can I do to help her feel better?

Hi my dog has pucked 5 times in the past 2 days if there anything I should do or could do to make her feel better?

Poor girl. You can try fasting her for 12 hrs and then slowly introducing a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese in small portions. This can help settle her stomach if she just got into something she shouldn’t have and it just upset her stomach. If she is still puking then it’s best to have her seen by your vet for testing to determine the underlying cause (kidney disease, pancreatitis, infection) and medications (ie anti-nausea medicine, antibiotics, etc) to help her feel better. Hi. I'm sorry Puggy isn't feel well. If she is continuously vomiting she may need veterinary care so she doesn't become dehydrated and to figure out why she's sick. If it's just a once or twice and she is otherwise acting normal, then do not offer her food for at least 4 hours since she last threw up. If she will drink water without vomiting, let her drink. Then offer very small amounts of food (tablespoon at a time) of either her regular dog food or a bland mix of cooked chicken and rice (no bones, skin, fat, gravy or seasoning). If she continues to get sick she should see a veterinarian. There are many reasons that could make Puggy vomit. I don't recommend giving any medications without her being checked by a vet. Hope she feels better soon.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sweet pea may have a condition known as pancreatitis that is causing her to vomit. This occurs commonly when dogs eat high fat foods and can be extremely painful and result in severe illness that may require hospitalization. Sweet pea may also have a foreign body that is causing the vomiting. I recommend keeping Sweet pea off of food for 12-24 hours and offering small amounts of water. You can reintroduce food slowly. Sweet pea should be seen by a vet immediately if she develops diarrhea, loses her appetite, or is lethargic. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

My puppy is throwing up and dry heaving with a rumbling stomach. Why?

Poor girl. Unfortunately my major concern here is that Winnie may have a foreign body. I would highly recommend fasting her for 6hrs and then offer her a small portion of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte to keep her hydrated until you can get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to do a complete physical examination and likely will recommend x-rays if a foreign body ingestion is suspected. Best case scenario is that Winnie has a really upset stomach from something she ingested and not a true obstruction. However, the next best thing is to get her seen by your vet as soon as they are open in the morning. I do hope that Winnie feels better soon! Best of luck and take care

My dog threw up yellow and white, now she's hiding. What's wrong?

Throwing up can be caused by a food sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would fast Juice for 24 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the vomiting or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on

My puppy threw up and won't eat for 36 hours. What should I do?

Poor girl. She may have an internal illness that is making her not want to eat. Since it has been more than 24 hrs I would encourage you to take her to your vet to get checked out. She may have an infection, organ malfunction, or a severe stomach upset from something she ate. She will likely need medications through your vet to help her get back on her feet. In the meantime you can try offering her small amounts of Pedialyte non-flavored (diluted 50:50 with water) and small amounts of a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. My dog threw up, is shivering, and not eating. What should I do?

Poor Ava sounds pretty sick, and she may have a stomach illness. She could be trembling because she has a fever, and I'm concerned that she's not eating much. Try feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. My dog won't eat, has upset stomach, and threw up. What now?

Since last night was Halloween, think about if there's anything she could have eaten that she shouldn't have and take her to the vet ASAP if you realize your chocolate stash or your entire pan of bacon wrapped something or anothers from the potluck is missing. If you can't think of anything she ate, it's generally ok to wait 24 hours to see if she get back on her food naturally. Sometimes something goes wrong in the gut and we don't know why but it resolves quickly. If she's not back to normal in 24 hours, or has any vomiting or diarrhea in the mean time, she needs to go to her vet for evaluation and supportive care. Vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. You could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. Good luck and have a great day!
