My dog is throwing up, drooling, and acting sick. What's wrong?

It sounds like Charlie is nauseous. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the excessive drooling continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

It sounds like your dog is sick. The drooling can be due to nausea, and the lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, and diarrhea could be due to a severe GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. I would take your dog into a vet right away for an exam, he sounds quite ill with all these symptoms, and he needs to be medically treated ASAP.

Excessive salivary production and licking of the lips sounds like some pretty significant nausea too me. Daisy would likely benefit from some anti-nausea medication. The best drugs for this include Cerenia and metoclopramide, both of which will require a prescription from your vet. Over the counter options which do not tend to work as effectively include things like pepsid and prilosec. I would encourage you to take Daisy in to be examined to see if there is an underlying problem that can be determined. Common causes of nausea in dogs include gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, vertigo / neurologic diseases, inner ear infections, GI foreign bodies, and several different infectious diseases. If your dog is lethargic and vomiting these two things in combination are reason to seek veterinary care, as your dog is likely dehydrated and may need fluid therapy via an IV catheter or subcutaneous fluids. If he has just started vomiting or has only vomited a couple times, you can try fasting him (nothing orally, no food or water) to let his stomach settle and then slowly reintroducing fluids and then a bland diet such as plain cooked white rice and boiled chicken breast. If despite this he continues to vomit, he becomes weak, he has blood in his vomit or stool, or is painful in his abdomen then seek veterinary care. Drooling can be due to nausea, or irritation/inflammation in the mouth, or ingestion of a toxin. If you think a toxin ingestion is possible, seek veterinary care.

Hi there. While it is not abnormal for Charlie to be lethargic and behave differently when everyone leaves-this is a bit much. I would recommend taking him in to your veterinarian in case something else is going on. Pancreatitis, intoxication, and a few other diseases can start with this presentation. Shivering in dogs is often a pain response (can also be nervousness, cold, etc). If these behaviors continue I recommend taking him in as soon as you can to try to prevent it from getting worse. Hi. Yes this does sound concerning. Drooling is a sign of nausea usually, or an oral irrirant or lesion in the mouth. If she has diarrhea too, I would say its most likely nausea. This can be caused by gi disease, something they ate, infection, something stuck in intestines, or many other causes. She should be seen with these signs.

Poor Charlie! It's great that she doesn't have parvo, but if she can't keep food down and keeps throwing up, she could have a severe GI illness, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. I would take her back into the vet now. She will need a shot to stop the vomiting, and IV fluids for hydration. If the vet hasn't done x-rays to check for a foreign body, I think it would be a good idea for those to be done.
