Why is my dog drooling, licking lips, panting, and throwing up unchewed food?

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

My boxer has been having excessive saliva. She licks her lips all the time. She had sob at night and excessive panting. When she get a up in the morning she will drink tons of water and then throw up her food that looks like it hasn't been chewed. Can you help please

Excessive salivary production and licking of the lips sounds like some pretty significant nausea too me. Daisy would likely benefit from some anti-nausea medication. The best drugs for this include Cerenia and metoclopramide, both of which will require a prescription from your vet. Over the counter options which do not tend to work as effectively include things like pepsid and prilosec. I would encourage you to take Daisy in to be examined to see if there is an underlying problem that can be determined. Common causes of nausea in dogs include gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, vertigo / neurologic diseases, inner ear infections, GI foreign bodies, and several different infectious diseases. If you visit the vet, they may want to obtain some images / lab work to rule certain things in and out. Hope this helps!

I’m sorry to hear that Charlie isn’t feeling well! Chronic vomiting is a cause for concern as it may be caused by toxin ingestion, kidney or liver disease, a foreign body, intestinal parasites, and even certain cancers. Charlie’s increased salivation is a very common sign of nausea. I recommend having her seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine what is going on. These are general signs of stomach upset, she feels that something is not right in her gastrointestinal tract and she tries to make it better by licking the floor (usually when a dog has access to grass they will ingest grass). She is probably suffering from a gastrointestinal infection, possibly due to something bad she ate. withhold food for 12 hours then offer her boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she continues vomiting or is not eating, take her to the vet to get treatment.

Why is my 11-month-old Boxer puppy suddenly drooling excessively?

Drooling is a sign of nausea which could be caused by something she ate. She may correct herself, so I would suggest perhaps monitoring her for the next 6 hrs to see if this behavior stops. If she continues to drool and/or other symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite) develop then that is definitely a good time to get her checked by your local veterinarian. Other possible causes of drooling are: problems with her teeth, infection, and nausea due to organ malfunction (i.e. kidneys, liver, etc). You can also offer her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for the next few feedings to see if this too will help settle her stomach. I hope your puppy Rousey recovers well!

It sounds like your dog was nauseous, and dogs can lick things when they are nauseous. I can give you a home remedy for the vomiting to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Smacking her lips could be a sign of a dental problem or nausea. Diarrhea and throwing up can be caused by a food sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would fast Kiwi for 24 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
