My dog ate a plastic toy and threw it up. Should I go to the vet?

Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Good luck and have a good night!

What a cute cat ! The only way to make sure she does not eat these things is to remove these things from the house or keep them put away so she cannot get to them. If she continues eating this type of material, she may have serious GI issues or a blockage.

There is always the possibility that there is more frisbee in her stomach and/or intestinal tract. Toys such as these do have the potential for causing an intestinal obstruction. I would not take her into a vet now, but monitor her for the next 72 hours. If she continues to vomit, stops eating, starts having diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts throwing up water, or becomes very lethargic, those are signs of obstruction, and then I would take her into a vet right away.

Of course the concern would be a gastrointestinal obstruction from her eating pieces of her toy. At this point, if she has only vomited once, you may continue to monitor her closely to see if it is only going to be an isolated episode. Watch closely for signs associated with an obstruction such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. If observed, have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment at that point. Good luck and have a great day!

As long as he is eating and drinking normally, I would not be concerned. If he begins to vomit or loses his appetite, then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him and perform some diagnostic testing such as x-rays to help rule out a foreign body obstruction from the plastic. I am sorry to hear about Copper. If you believe he vomited most of the toy (for example if you have the toy and can tell most of it is accounted for) and he is energetic/no longer vomiting/not painful in the belly area, then you can try monitoring him. If however, he starts vomiting again, starts acting lethargic, starts acting as though he is painful, or if he doesn't want to eat later today (I wouldn't offer him food for a few hours to let his stomach settle) then these would be signs of a possible obstruction and would be reasons to seek veterinary care.

Oh no it's not good that Kitty ate that vomit! At most, I would expect that eating this vomit could cause some GI upset, causing her to vomit and/or have diarrhea. It's good that it doesn't look like she has eaten the plastic bag, and if she ate the bag, I would be concerned that the bag could cause a foreign body obstruction. Keep an eye on her for now, and if you see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
