My dog's testicle color is changing and he has a rash. What to do?

If Bruno’s platelets are low enough you could see bruising on the skin and scrotum. The scrotum can become more pigmented with time and just like the belly skin they can also become red when certain things contact the scrotum like grass. Have a good day.

I recommend placing an E-collar on him to prevent any licking which could make the skin worse. If he will let you, you can bath him with a moisturizing shampoo such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Hello, Ralphs' skin patches are likely a variance of normal skin pigmentation that dogs may develop are they grow. I would only be concerned about these changes if they become raised or nodular, if they are painful, or if they have any discharge. It is really hard to tell by pictures if skin is normal. I think based on the photo that Ludo does have normal testicles. The testicles can have some pigment on them. However at anytime Ludo is not acting normal, itching, abnormal urination or not eating I would recommend taking him to a vet to have them checked in person. hope that helps

It doesn't sound like a bacterial infection is for sure the cause, so recommending just treating this with an antibiotic (which usually has to be prescribed by your vet) is not the best course of action here. Also a picture of the area would help somewhat. However, I can understand your financial situation. I would recommend reposting your question with a picture of the testicles first. Odors can be caused by bacterial or fungal infections in pets. You can try washing him with an aloe based or oatmeal based shampoo (from your local pet store) and then applying a thin layer of Neosporin to the testicles once every 12 hrs. However, if the area does not improve, then a vet visit is the next best course of action. He likely will need to have this area tested with a skin impression to collect cells from the surface. This will help determine what kind of infection is present (bacterial or fungal) so that we know what course of treatment is needed to clear things up. Also most skin infections will require oral antibiotics only available through a licensed veterinarian.
