My Boston Terrier has small bumps on its tail. What are these lumps?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 6 months and 24 days old | 16 lbs

I just found two small bumps/lumps on my Boston terriers tail. What could these be? I added pictures of both, but you can only see the one really well.

It is difficult to tell what types of bumps those are without feeling them and potentially doing a fine needle aspirate on them. Given that Kobe is so young, they are hopefully something as simple as a cyst, pustule/pimple, or even an insect bite. You can try applying a warm compress to the area for 5 minutes a few times a day to see if they resolve or rupture. If they don't and especially if they are getting bigger or you are finding more of them, I would take Kobe in to a vet to get checked out. The vet can use a small needle to suck out some cells (fine needle aspirate) and look at them under the microscope to try to figure out what these bumps are and if they need to be treated.

I recommend this be done with you local veterinarian so it can be determined what the bumps are and whether or not they need to be removed or not. Hi, It sounds like your dog is having an allergic reaction to something. It could se something in the grass or a small insect bite or many other things. I would monitor him for worsening bumps, vomiting and lethargy. You can bathe him with a steroid shampoo that you can purchase in a pet store, as well as some sprays commercially available for irritated skin. If they are not getting worse, they may just go down in a few days. Make sure you are giving him the proper benedryl dose and this can be given 3 times a day as well. A vet visit is in order if he is not acting right or the bumps get worse. Good luck!

The bump could be caused by an infection, allergic reaction, cyst, benign or cancerous mass. The only way to know for sure is to have your vet do a fine needle aspirate. It is a very easy proceedure that takes just a few minutes. Once it is diagnose, your vet can decide the best treatment. Please call your vet and schedule an appointment, especially since it seems to be bothering her.

My Boston Terrier has a growing eyelid bump. What could this be?

My best guess is that this is a histiocytoma (benign tumor of the skin) but it could also be a localized allergic reaction or a cyst. Hard to tell just by looking at one photo. She should be fine to wait the two days to see the vet as long as the eyeball itself looks normal. If the eyeball doesn't look normal you need to get her in to see a different vet as soon as possible. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Otis Lee. He will need to see his veterinarian for a procedure known as a fine needle aspirate. The veterinarian will use a small needle to collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. This will ideally give you a diagnosis for the bump. A histiocytoma is common on the extremities of a young dog. This is a spontaneous growth usually goes away on its own. However, a cancerous mass known as a mast cell tumor has the same outward appearance. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him to prevent any further self-trauma. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be benign or malignant growths. These could also be abscesses based on your description. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
